Job Description
NorthAmCon is seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Mechanical Design Technician / CAD Designer to join our growing Engineering team. This position focuses on developing manufacturing drawings, 3D models, Bills of Materials, and technical documentation that support the design and production of material handling equipment.
Working closely with Engineers, Manufacturing, Purchasing, and Operations teams, you will transform customer requirements into accurate and manufacturable designs while maintaining engineering documentation and supporting projects through production.
This is an excellent opportunity for individuals with CAD and drafting experience who want to further develop their technical skills in a collaborative manufacturing environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Create detailed manufacturing drawings and 3D models using CAD software.
- Develop customer approval drawings and engineering documentation.
- Create and maintain Bills of Materials (BOMs).
- Prepare work instructions, inspection documents, and testing procedures.
- Maintain design files, revisions, and engineering records.
- Assist with gathering job information for quoting and project planning.
- Support Engineers with product design and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Collaborate with Manufacturing, Purchasing, and Operations to resolve design-related issues.
- Attend project meetings and provide status updates.
- Support product inspections and testing activities.
- Manage multiple projects while meeting deadlines and maintaining quality standards.
- Occasional travel to customer or manufacturing sites may be required.
Skills Needed
- Proficiency with CAD software, including SolidWorks and/or AutoCAD.
- Strong Microsoft Office skills, including Excel and Word.
- Excellent organizational and time-management abilities.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and within a team environment.
Knowledge Required
- Basic understanding of mechanical design and drafting principles.
- Familiarity with manufacturing and fabrication processes.
- Understanding of Design for Manufacturing (DFM) concepts.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.
- Knowledge of BOM structures and engineering documentation practices.
Ability to Implement
- Translate customer requirements into accurate manufacturing drawings.
- Support product development and production activities.
- Adapt to changing priorities and project requirements.
- Work effectively within budget and schedule constraints.
- Contribute to safe, efficient, and manufacturable product designs.
Education
Preferred
- Associate Degree in Mechanical Design, Drafting, Engineering Technology, or related field.
Considered Equivalent
- High School Diploma or equivalent with relevant CAD, drafting, manufacturing, or engineering support experience.
Experience
Preferred
- 0–3 years of experience in mechanical design, drafting, manufacturing, or engineering support.
- Experience with SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or similar CAD software.
- Material handling, industrial equipment, or manufacturing experience is a plus but not required.
