Mechanical Engineer
· Design, model & draw: Design new and replacement gears, shafts, and gearbox components; reverse-engineer parts from samples and inspection data; produce SolidWorks models and detailed drawings with gear data tables and GD&T.
· Gear checks & rating: Check and rate spur, helical, double helical, bevel, and worm gearing to AGMA/ISO with the design team, using KISSsoft (training provided).
· Quoting: Review RFQs, customer drawings, and worn or failed samples; define scope, material, heat treat, and manufacturing method; build cost estimates and quotes with the sales team and serve as the customer’s technical contact from quote through delivery.
· Router building: Create the routers the shop runs (operation sequence, work centers, setup and run hours, inspection points) and build estimating standards that keep quotes fast and consistent.
· Shop & quality support: Work with machinists, programmers, and quality on manufacturability, hobbing/shaping/grinding questions, nonconformances, and first-article issues.
· Failure analysis: Support gearbox teardowns, root-cause analysis, and repair recommendations; occasional field and customer visits. Other duties as assigned.
· Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering Technology.
· Five (5) or more years of mechanical engineering experience in gear manufacturing, power transmission, or precision machined components.
· Working knowledge of gear geometry and AGMA standards (e.g., AGMA 2001, 2015, 6010; ISO 6336 / 1328).
· Proficient in SolidWorks (detailed drawings, GD&T per ASME Y14.5); understanding of turning, milling, hobbing, shaping, grinding, and heat treat.
· Strong Excel/estimating skills and attention to detail; able to manage multiple quotes on tight turnarounds.
· Must pass a post-offer physical, drug screen, and have an acceptable 3-year Motor Vehicle Report as required by company policy.
Preferred qualifications
· KISSsoft (or similar gear rating software); experience quoting machined parts or building routers in an ERP/scheduling system.
· Gear inspection (gear analyzers, CMM, lead/profile charts), AGMA 1010 failure modes, and gearbox repair or reverse engineering.
The person we’re looking for
· Team-first: You share credit, ask for input, and respect what the machinist on the floor knows.
· An owner: You take a job from quote to shipment, set your own goals, and keep learning (AGMA, KISSsoft, the shop).
· A problem-solver people trust: You work easily with customers, sales, and the shop, and you bring a fix along with every problem.
Work environment
Office-based with regular shop-floor time. Requires standing, walking, stooping, and climbing; occasional lifts up to 50 lbs; shop noise, dust, and oil. PPE required.
