Mechanical Engineer (Entry-Level / Intern)
Description
About Us
We are a venture-backed manufacturing startup building the most advanced automated production facilities in the United States. We are on a mission to make American manufacturing economically viable — through intelligent machinery, automation, and a relentless focus on execution.
We are early, we are moving fast, and we are looking for exceptional people who want to build something that matters.
Role Summary
We're looking for an entry-level Mechanical Engineer or Mechanical Engineering Intern to join a small, fast-moving team designing and building large-scale industrial manufacturing equipment. This role works across the mechanical side of the machine - from part design and drawings through fabrication, assembly, and iteration on real hardware. This is a hands-on, ownership-heavy role for someone who moves comfortably between CAD and the shop floor.
Core Responsibilities
Design parts and subassemblies for large-scale industrial manufacturing equipment, from concept through fabrication, alongside senior engineers
Generate detailed part drawings, work orders, and BOMs to hand off to fabrication and build technicians
Work directly alongside build technicians on the shop floor to guide assembly, troubleshoot fit/function issues, and iterate in real time
Support the design-to-manufacture handoff, ensuring designs are buildable, documented, and repeatable
Collaborate cross-functionally with electrical and controls engineers - including remote teammates - to integrate mechanical systems into complete machine builds
Contribute to mechanical engineering standards and processes as the function grows
Required
Pursuing or recently completed Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in mechanical or aerospace engineering from an ABET-accredited program
Relevant coursework or projects related to mechanical part design, machine design, control systems, mechatronics, or equivalent
Proficiency in 3D CAD (SolidWorks or similar, Siemens NX a plus)
Ability to read and create engineering drawings; familiarity with GD&T
Hands-on build experience - machine shop, student design team, or personal projects - and comfortable working directly with machinists and build technicians
Effective communicator and collaborator in a distributed team environment - comfortable with async communication and remote-first workflows
Flexible with schedule and hours; thrives in a startup environment where priorities shift and urgency is real
Nice-to-Have
Prior internships or co-op experience working in industry, experience at an early-stage hard tech or deep tech startup a major plus
Hands-on mechanical experience in a professional or collegiate shop setting
Leadership role on a student engineering team or competition project (FSAE, Baja, rocketry, robotics, or similar)
Prior experience on a small team where you wore multiple hats
Additional
Willingness to travel as needed for vendor visits, factory acceptance testing, and on-site equipment commissioning
Comfort with a startup pace - this role demands flexibility, self-direction, and a bias toward getting things done over waiting for perfect conditions
