We are seeking a Mechanical Engineer to lead the development of elastomeric products from concept through testing and implementation. Based at our Aberdeen headquarters, you will take ownership of product development projects, applying engineering design principles, analysis, prototyping, and testing techniques to optimise solutions for demanding applications in the oilfield and beyond. The successful candidate will work on core product lines from day one, supporting the continued development of our packing element and cup portfolio.
Responsibilities:
- Work directly with customers to develop solutions that meet their technical and operational requirements.
- Develop and optimise traditional seal types using established processes, methods, and material knowledge to ensure customer scopes are completed.
- Design, research, and develop innovative mechanical solutions, products, and prototypes to satisfy new challenges.
- Produce engineering layouts, calculations, specifications, and maintain accurate project records.
- Use Computer Aided Design (CAD) to develop concepts and communicate design requirements to draughtsperson(s).
- Use Finite Element Analysis (FEA) to analyse, optimise, and validate design proposals.
- Take technical ownership of projects through design, analysis, prototyping, testing, and implementation.
- Support and oversee in-house product testing alongside the Lead Test Technician and test team.
- Collaborate with cross functional teams including manufacturing, materials, testing, suppliers, and customers.
Essential:
- Minimum 5 years' experience in mechanical engineering design and product development.
- Analytical capability with experience performing stress and load calculations.
- A BEng (Hons) degree in Mechanical Engineering.
- Experience using Computer Aided Design (CAD) software, preferably SolidWorks.
Desirable:
- Experience developing products using elastomeric materials.
- Experience designing test fixtures and pressure vessels.
- Working knowledge of downhole tools and related industry standards.
- Experience of product development within the oil and gas, energy, or industrial sectors.
- Experience using Finite Element Analysis (FEA) software.
- A Master’s (MEng/MSc) in Mechanical Engineering.
Why Join Us?
- Work on challenging engineering problems involving high-pressure, high-temperature sealing applications.
- Take ownership of projects from concept through testing and commercial deployment.
- Access in-house design, manufacturing and testing capabilities that enable rapid product development.
- Collaborate directly with customers to solve real-world downhole challenges.
