The Role: Barton Associates is seeking highly motivated recent college graduates to join our team as Designers. This is an exciting opportunity for individuals with degrees in Architectural Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Electrical Engineering who are eager to launch their careers in a collaborative and fast-paced engineering environment.


The ideal candidate is passionate about engineering design, eager to learn, and excited to work alongside experienced professionals on impactful building projects. You’ll gain hands-on experience, mentorship, and exposure to a variety of building systems and project types while contributing to innovative engineering solutions from day one.


Location(s): York, PA; Philadelphia, PA; State College, PA; Pittsburgh, PA; Raleigh, NC (Hybrid)


Key Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with engineers to determine project design criteria, applicable building and energy codes, and full building systems design requirements
  • Assist with equipment selections, calculations, and layouts for mechanical and/or electrical building systems
  • Design and layout specialty systems such as HVAC, plumbing, fire protection, medical gas, lighting, and other building systems
  • Prepare detailed technical drawings and specifications using AutoCAD and REVIT
  • Research code requirements and industry standards applicable to project designs
  • Support project teams with studies, reports, and technical documentation
  • Participate in design reviews and quality control efforts to ensure accuracy and compliance with project requirements
  • Collaborate with clients and project team members to evaluate design alternatives and recommend solutions
  • Conduct basic fieldwork, surveys, and site investigations to document existing conditions


Additional Duties May Include:

  • Working under the supervision of a project discipline lead Engineer or Designer
  • Assisting with design calculations and layouts required for complete construction documents
  • Coordinating designs with other disciplines and project team members
  • Assisting during construction phases by reviewing shop drawings, responding to RFIs, and participating in site visits
  • Becoming familiar with discipline-specific technical specifications and best practices
  • Supporting the preparation of opinions of probable construction costs
  • Assisting with coordination between public agencies, utilities, and approval authorities
