Mechanical Project Engineer

Your New Role

A leading Tier 1 infrastructure contractor is seeking an experienced Mechanical Project Engineer to join a major wastewater treatment upgrade project in Leicestershire. This is an excellent opportunity to play a key role in the delivery of a significant capital investment scheme involving process treatment installations, pumping systems, chemical dosing infrastructure, pipework and commissioning activities.Working closely with the Project Manager and wider delivery team, you will be responsible for coordinating design, procurement, installation, commissioning and handover activities to ensure successful project delivery.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and author technical scopes of work
  • Review and assess mechanical supplier and subcontractor tenders
  • Manage mechanical design queries and technical interfaces
  • Coordinate mechanical design and construction activities
  • Produce and manage quality documentation and digital records
  • Oversee supply chain performance and programme delivery
  • Support procurement of mechanical equipment and materials
  • Attend site inspections, testing and commissioning activities
  • Liaise with designers, subcontractors and site teams to resolve technical issues
  • Develop and manage Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs)
  • Support risk assessments, method statements and project planning documentation
  • Assist with variation management and commercial change processes
  • Ensure works are delivered safely, to programme, within budget and to required quality standards

Project ScopeThe successful candidate will support the delivery and commissioning of a range of wastewater treatment and mechanical infrastructure installations including:

  • Process treatment equipment
  • Chemical dosing systems
  • Package pumping stations
  • Washwater systems
  • Potable water network modifications
  • Large diameter above-ground pipework
  • Mechanical plant upgrades and associated infrastructure

What You'll Need

  • Proven experience delivering mechanical engineering projects within the UK water or wastewater sector
  • Strong understanding of design-and-build project delivery
  • Experience reviewing and coordinating mechanical designs
  • Ability to work with and review Revit models
  • Knowledge of commissioning processes and quality assurance requirements
  • Familiarity with HAZOP reviews and water industry engineering processes
  • Strong stakeholder management and communication skills
  • Experience managing subcontractors and supply chain partners
  • A proactive approach to problem solving and continuous improvement
