Junior Hardware Engineer
Description
Cota Robotics puts robots to work in retail stores. They take on the repetitive, time-consuming jobs like inbounding goods, replenishing shelves and sorting stock, currently mostly overnight. They're driven from our control room in Stockholm and increasingly run on their own. We raised a €1.92M pre-seed in August 2026 and are live with retailers in Sweden and Finland. We're a small team based at Sankt Eriksgatan in Stockholm, where half the office is our own dark store.
About the role
You’ll work hands-on with the robot and make it survive real stores. Mounts, brackets, grippers, actuators, sensors, wiring, whatever the robot needs. Some of it will be properly engineered. Some of it needs to work by Thursday. You should be comfortable with both.
What you’ll do
Build, fix, and improve electrical and mechanical subsystems on the robot
Deploy robots into stores and see firsthand where they break
Fix what’s broken, then turn what you learn into the next version of the hardware
Design, 3D-print, and assemble parts, mounts, and fixtures, and integrate them with the electronics
Build and test prototypes of new designs
What we’re looking for
High agency: when something is broken, you fix it, whether or not it’s your job
Background in mechatronics, mechanical or electrical engineering, robotics, or similar
A very fast learner, happy to research unfamiliar problems as they come up
A tinkerer or maker who has taken more things apart than they’ve put back together
A generalist comfortable across a broad range of components and disciplines
Able to make something work in the short term and improve it later without confusing the two
Comfortable with CAD basics and hands-on prototyping
At home in a chaotic, fast-moving environment
We expect to fill this role in November or December 2026
You must already have the right to work in Sweden, as unfortunately, we’re not able to offer visa sponsorship at our current stage
How to apply: Tell us about something you built or fixed on your own, and link to it (project, repo, video, photos).
Why join
Build on real robots operating in real stores
Work across disciplines rather than in a narrow silo
Learn quickly from field deployments and hardware feedback
Help shape the next version of the system
