Medical Assistant
Overview
The Department of Surgery at Macon & Joan Brock Virginia Health Sciences at Old Dominion University is seeking an outstanding Medical Assistant to join the team.
The Medical Assistant is an entry-level position responsible for assisting healthcare providers in delivering high-quality patient care in a surgical practice. This role involves performing basic clinical and administrative duties while learning the front and back-office workflows and protocols of the practice.
Responsibilities
Obtain patient vital signs, advising patients to help them in keeping up with blood pressure, temperature, height and weight.
- Prepare patients charts in EMR
- Assist physicians with examinations.
- Answer phone.
- Clean and prepare exam rooms between patients.
- Clean instruments and exam rooms make sure area is sanitized.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications and Skills:
Successful completion of a medical assistant program (or equivalent military training) and active certification (CMA, CCMA, or RMA) is required.
Preferred Qualifications:
- No prior experience required; entry-level candidates encouraged to apply. Previous medical office experience with surgery experience performing relevant functions in a doctor’s office preferred. Must have some working knowledge of computers. Customer service-oriented individuals are required.
