The Source is seeking a Medical Assistant to assist Providers and Nurses in providing care to our patients.

The Medical Assistant supports patient care by recording and updating medical histories and contact information, performing standard care procedures such as drawing blood, checking vital signs, and collecting lab samples, and providing patients with support and resource information as needed.


What You'll Do

In this role, you will:

  • Obtain patient health records prior to patient visits and prepare charts.
  • Take accurate and complete medical histories.
  • Prepare patients for examinations.
  • Take accurate vital signs.
  • Assist Advanced Practice Providers (APP) and other Licensed Healthcare Professionals during patient examinations according to generally accepted medical standards.
  • Maintain exam rooms according to protocols, including cleaning rooms between patient exams and ensuring necessary supplies are stocked.
  • Promptly report when supplies are low and work to ensure timely reordering is completed.
  • Collect and prepare laboratory specimens and perform basic lab tests.
  • Prepare and administer medications as directed by the APP.
  • Explain treatment procedures to patients.
  • Talk to pregnant patients about their legal options and provide educational materials, information about Source programs, and community resources.
  • Instruct patients about medications and special diets.
  • Keep equipment operating by following operating instructions, troubleshooting breakdowns, maintaining supplies, performing preventive maintenance, and calling for repairs.
  • Perform general clerical duties in support of patient services according to clinic needs and as directed by the Clinic Director.
  • Secure patient information and maintain patient confidence by completing and safeguarding medical records and keeping patient information confidential.
  • Practice universal precautions according to established safety protocols.
  • Maintain a safe, secure, and healthy work environment by following standards and procedures and complying with legal regulations.
  • Work with the patient scheduling system to assist in ensuring efficient patient flow.
  • Attend staff and medical meetings.
  • Assist in special events, including annual fundraisers, Source 101’s, and church presentations as needed.
  • Establish positive working relationships with staff members and volunteers.
  • Attend and volunteer at The Source's local major fundraising event every year. Attendance and volunteering at The Source's second major fundraising event is strongly preferred.
  • Complete all training.
  • Other duties, as assigned.

We're looking for someone who meets the following qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Medical Assistant Certification, preferred.
  • BLS certification, required.
  • Prior clinical experience, preferred.
  • Bilingual in Spanish, preferred.
  • Women's Health OB/GYN experience, preferred.
  • Ability to multi-task.
  • Must be detail-oriented, highly organized, and a team player.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with the clinical team, staff, patients, and external customers at all times.
  • Firm understanding of medical practices, patient care and examination procedures, administrative processes, and organizational policies.
  • Must be able to maintain confidentiality at all times.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office computer applications.
  • Demonstrate compassion, cheerfulness, and professionalism.
