Medical Instrument Technician (Gastroenterology)
Summary
Assists gastroenterologists during invasive GI procedures by preparing patients, equipment, and procedure areas, operating endoscope reprocessing systems, and maintaining clinical standards.
About the Position: Serves as a Gastroenterology Technician and provides direct assistance to the staff and gastroenterology physician during invasive gastrointestinal types of procedures. Prepares the patient, equipment and the procedure area to perform invasive procedures; and resets the equipment and procedure area for the next procedure. This is a Direct Hire Solicitation
Assists the Gastroenterologist and/or the GI Surgeon in various clinical, diagnostic, therapeutic and/or emergency procedures
Assists with endoscopic biopsies and polypectomies.
Provides patients an initial preparation checklist and provides an explanation of the procedures to minimize fears and to ensure their cooperation.
Selects, sets up, adjusts and operates equipment for designated procedures.
Moves the mobile procedure cart, equipment cart and portable monitor to the ED, ICU or OR.
Prepares the equipment for operation; and, assists the gastroenterology physician in the procedure with the equipment.
Positions and drapes the patient in accordance with clinic standard operating procedures.
Operates the automatic endoscope reprocessing system to disinfect equipment.
Disinfects equipment to prevent patient infection and cross-contamination by disassembling the scope, brushes parts and dips into a solution prior to putting into the washer.
Prepares reports on examinations, equipment and utilization, workload, supply status, consumption and related matters.
Maintains inventory according to standards.
Performs all setup of equipment, checks instruments/equipment for completeness and proper functioning prior to beginning procedure; and troubleshoots equipment during procedures as necessary.
