Medical Instrument Technician (Hemodialysis)

The Medical Instrument Technician (MIT) performs invasive hemodialysis procedures utilizing highly, complex technical monitoring equipment under the direction or prescription of a qualified physician. These procedures are performed upon patients who have diagnoses of End Stage Renal Failure, Acute Renal Failure, and Chronic Renal Failure. The incumbent is proficient in the use of physiologic analytical equipment during diagnostic and therapeutic procedures in the Hemodialysis Unit.

Functions or Scope of Assigned Duties: Operates Complex Medical Instrument Equipment & Assists Medical Staff with or performs Diagnostic Procedure: Performs the full range of complex hemodialysis treatments, which include Standard, Hi/Lo efficiency and Hi- Flux Dialysis methodology utilizing high tech hemodialysis filtration systems. The MIT is proficient in accessing vascular systems on patients in order to initiate the treatment regimen. The MIT has a thorough understanding of dialysate concentrates used in hemodialysis and is aware of the absolute exactness that is required for hemodialysis procedures. The MIT understands all the critical alarms that are included on the hemodialysis equipment and responds appropriately. As an active member of the healthcare team, the MIT recognizes abnormal or life threatening changes in the patient's condition and notifies the RN or MD for immediate attention. Performs Quality Control Assessments, Supply Care and Storage, Performs Maintenance: They are familiar with emergency measures to ensure the safe delivery of hemodialysis treatments. Hemodialysis equipment involves multiple steps to ensure the equipment is properly disinfected and ready for use. The incumbent ensures that all equipment is kept clean and safe for use. The incumbent requests preventative maintenance as required and arranges for sterilization of equipment as needed for the treatment. Safety Appropriately uses equipment and supplies. Maintains safe, orderly work areas. Reports any accident to self or patient and completes appropriate form. Follows Life Safety Management (fire protection) procedures. Reports safety hazards, accidents and injuries. Reviews hazardous materials/Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS)/waste management. Follows Emergency Preparedness plan. Follows security policies/procedures. Complies with federal, state and local environmental and other requirements preventing pollution, minimizing waste, and conserving cultural and natural resources. Demonstrates infection control practices for disease prevention (i.e. hand washing, universal precautions/isolation procedures, including TB requirement/precautions. Work Schedule: Six 12-hour and one 8-hour Shift Per Pay Period. The hours will be 5:30am - 6:00pm, 5:30am - 2:00pm, 9:30am - 10:00pm, 1:30pm - 10:00pm, and on call Sundays, 05:30am - 9:00pm.
