Job Summary and Responsibilities

As our Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT), you will perform all levels of general testing within the analytical laboratory, applying a high level of technical knowledge to department testing and clinical relevance. Every day you will function consistently in a self-directed manner, utilizing your expertise to conduct a variety of laboratory analyses and contribute to accurate diagnostic information. To be successful in this role, you will possess strong technical knowledge in laboratory testing, complex problem-solving skills, and the ability to work independently to ensure the ongoing quality and relevance of departmental testing.

  • Performs cytogenetic testing with a high level of competency according to established protocols.
  • Generates and reports results which are used for making accurate diagnoses and prognoses which influences patient care and management.
  • Responsible for accurate and timely result reporting, including communication and documentation of critical results, and utilizes critical thinking skills and exercises independent judgment to correlate and interpret data.
  • Responsible for operation, maintenance, troubleshooting of instruments and appropriate documentation of activities.
  • Receives specimens, assesses priority, assures appropriate specimen identification, and appropriate specimen type, which may include ordering and processing of hospital registered and outreach patients.
  • Completes required QC and maintenance, consistently recognizing variances and documenting appropriate corrective action, and participates in detecting and documenting occurrences that deviate from defined procedures.

Job Requirements

Required

  • Associate’s Degree in a biological or chemical science as defined by CLIA OR High school diploma/GED and completed an official military medical laboratory course and held the military enlisted occupational speciality of Medical Laboratory Specialist (Lab Technician)
  • Must be appropriately trained in clinical laboratory science as judged by the Director of the Clinical Laboratory

Preferred

  • MLT (ASCP) or equivalent certification
