MEDICAL OFFICER
Job Description:
Core Clinical Function
- Attend all emergency patients presented to the Emergency service promptly within stipulated time.
- Immediate response to Emergency codes and Emergency Response Team (ERT) alert.
- Provide initial assessment & examination, diagnosis and appropriate treatment for emergency patients in A&E, related clinical areas and in-patient wards within their level of experience and competence.
- Communicate effectively the preliminary diagnosis, treatment options and health management with patient prior disposition or referrals.
- Coordinate and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver comprehensive patient care.
- Facilitate external and internal referrals, coordinate patient transfers for further management and continuation of care.
- Ensure duties and functions undertaken in a manner that minimizes delay or service disruption.
- To deliver efficient care through effective communication and teamwork with other related services and allied health.
- Support the emergency physician and organisation in other duties including risk management, critical incident investigation, infection control, disaster preparedness and major incident planning for A&E.
- Participate in community events, health fairs, and other outreach activities to promote health screening services as needed.
Administrative & Clinical Governance
- Maintain consistent and accurate documentation, clerking and medical record practices.
- Compliance to practices according to the policies and protocols of Hospital Pakar Damansara 2.
- Compliance to local, state and federal health regulations and standards.
- Comply and address to policies on patients’ and family’s rights at all times.
- Ensure confidentiality and compliance with data protection regulations.
- To comply and carry out duties as an employee as stipulated in Occupational Safety and Health Act and Regulations 1994:
- To take responsible care at work for the safety of yourself and other persons
- To cooperate with your employer and any other person in charge
- To wear or use any protective equipment or clothing provided by the employer
- To comply with any instruction or measure on occupational safety and health
- Compliance to patient safety goals as safety improvement measures.
- Participate in all 5S activities.
- Adhere to Standard People Practice (SPP).
- Perform any other duties assigned by the Emergency Physician, MD or CEO.
Continuous Medical Education
- Attend departmental and hospital educational sessions, committee meetings.
- Participate in staff training & training development in emergency care.
- Attend external training relevant to line of work.
- Involvement in ESG efforts and innovation activities organized by department or organization.
Requirements:
Education:
- Bachelor's degree in Medicine (MD or MBBS)
Knowledge and Experiences:
- Valid MMC registration with Annual Practising Certificate (APC)
- 3–5 years of working experience in a hospital setting
- Experience in Accident & Emergency (A&E) or Intensive Care Unit (ICU) is an added advantage
- Competent in managing acute medical and trauma cases across all triage categories, involving adult and paediatric patients
- Proficient in acute medicine, trauma management, resuscitation, and emergency procedures, including airway management, suturing, wound care, fracture immobilisation, and basic emergency ultrasound (if applicable)
- Familiar with MOH clinical practice guidelines (CPG), emergency workflows, and patient safety standards
Skills & Competencies:
- ALS / ATLS / PALS/ NRP certification would be advantageous
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Team-oriented, with a collaborative approach to patient care and workplace relationships
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
- Detailoriented with a strong focus on accuracy in documentation and patient management
- Effective time and task management skills, with the ability to handle multiple cases simultaneously in a fast-paced environment
- Basic computer literacy, with proficiency in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint considered an added advantage
