Your Role at St John of God Berwick Hospital

We are seeking an enthusiastic and customer-focused Medical Receptionist with private health fund and Medicare/DVA accounting experience to join our Consulting Suites team on a permanent full-time basis.

We welcome applications from candidates with medical reception experience, including those with an accounts background. This role will provide reception, administration, and accounts support as required to ensure the smooth operation of the service.

You will be responsible for being the primary point of contact for Consulting Suites, delivering exceptional reception, switchboard, accounts, and administrative support services to Consultants, Patients, and stakeholders both internally and externally.

This position operates Monday to Friday, with rostered shifts varying between 7:30am and 6:30pm. The successful candidate will work 7.5 to 8-hour shifts as rostered.

The Position

  • Computer skills in office packages – Genie, Gentu and Clinic to Cloud Software

  • General Medical Receptionist duties and new patient coordination

  • Booking appointments

  • Invoicing and receipting of accounts

  • Medical billing with health funds, bank reconciliation, and Medicare preferred

  • Maintain patient confidentiality at all times

  • Attend and participate in staff meetings

  • Take reasonable care of yourself and others.

  • Not to interfere, bypass, or misuse any system or equipment provided for health, safety, and welfare purposes

You will have the ability to prioritise tasks and manage workload effectively using strong time management skills, along with excellent communication abilities. You will also demonstrate a capacity to learn and implement new skills and knowledge quickly and accurately.

You will have experience in a Medical Receptionist role, preferably in Specialists’ rooms and the ability to maintain a high level of professionalism and confidentiality.

To succeed, you will have the ability to prioritise work requirements, work productively within a team environment, and demonstrate excellent customer service, communication, and organisational skills.

For the Accounts Support/Receptionist role, you should also have experience in:

  • Medical billing with health funds
  • Bank reconciliation
  • Medicare (preferred)
