ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

A Medical Records Coordinator is responsible for managing patients’ health records and history. Their main duties include helping conduct audits, gathering and filing patient information and processing discharge papers.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Maintain Patient Records: Organize, update, and manage physical and electronic medical records to ensure accuracy and confidentiality.
  • Process Requests: Handle requests for medical records from patients, providers, insurance companies, and legal entities in compliance with HIPAA and organizational policies.
  • Data Entry & Documentation: Accurately enter patient information into Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems and ensure all documentation is complete and up to date.
  • Ensure Compliance: Monitor adherence to federal and state regulations regarding health information privacy and security.
  • Coordinate with Staff: Work closely with physicians, and administrative staff to retrieve or update medical documentation as needed.
  • Respond to Inquiries: Address questions or concerns from patients and internal staff about medical records, timelines, and release procedures.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • This position does not have supervisory responsibilities.
