Medical Technician
About the Position: Serves as Medical Technician at Naval Medical Center, Portsmouth, Virginia This is a Direct Hire Solicitation
Receive patient's specimens of blood, urine, stool, microbiological and viral cultures, tissue, body fluids and cytological specimens.
Check that all specimens are properly and completely labeled.
Prepare specimens for analysis, ensuring that the physiologic properties are maintained.
Ensure timely distribution to laboratory sections of all specimens received.
Perform and calculate manual cell counts and properly identifies abnormal and normal blood cell populations.
Collect, test, and process donated blood into treatment specific components.
Perform, evaluate and monitor the performance of routine and specialized test procedures using manual and/or instrumental techniques in accordance with established protocols.
Prepare standards, controls, solutions, and reagents required for testing.
Perform primary review of patient results.
Identify unusual and/or discrepant values and initiates appropriate follow-up procedures to verify results.
Verify correct instrument operation using established procedures and quality control checks.
Managing inventory priorities and prepare inventory reports
Training new staff and draft/review SOPs
