Melt Operator - 1st Shift

Location: 805 S. 6th Street, De Pere, WI 54115

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Follow all company safety rules, policies, procedures, and PPE requirements.
  • Monitor and maintain furnace and melt system operating conditions.
  • Accurately take, record, and monitor production and process readings.
  • Identify, weigh, and mix alloys and charge materials to achieve required metal chemistry and customer specifications.
  • Prepare and charge cupolas, furnaces, and melt systems according to established procedures.
  • Assist with furnace startup, shutdown, cleaning, and maintenance activities.
  • Perform refractory maintenance, repairs, and relining of furnaces, cupolas, and ladles.
  • Remove slag and support metal treatment operations.
  • Assist with chemistry adjustments and quality control processes.
  • Operate cranes, forklifts, loaders, bobcats, and other mobile equipment as trained.
  • Load and unload raw materials, scrap, returns, and production materials.
  • Support air quality monitoring and general environmental compliance activities.
  • Maintain organized work areas and housekeeping standards.
  • Work collaboratively with finishing, maintenance, pattern shop, quality, and production personnel.
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives focused on safety, quality, productivity, and cost reduction.
  • Cross-train and perform duties in other foundry operations as needed, including pouring, molding, core production, shakeout, and sand processing.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED preferred.
  • Previous heavy industrial, manufacturing, or foundry experience preferred but not required.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and attention to detail.
  • Basic math skills required; advanced math skills are beneficial.
  • Ability to read and follow work instructions, procedures, and specifications.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience with cupola melt systems is a plus.
  • Experience operating forklifts, overhead cranes, or mobile equipment is beneficial.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, squat, climb, and perform physically demanding work throughout the shift.
  • Ability to work safely in hot, dusty, noisy industrial environments.
  • Ability to work at heights and in confined spaces when required.
  • Ability to occasionally lift up to 75 pounds.
  • Ability to wear all required personal protective equipment.
  • Ability to safely work around molten metal and moving equipment.

Work Schedule

  • Must be available to work assigned shifts and overtime as production requirements dictate.
  • Occasional weekend work may be required.
