Member of Technical Staff: Senior Fullstack Robotics Software
Position Summary:
You will build and own major pieces of the on-robot software stack that powers our humanoid robots in real-world industrial deployments. Working primarily in modern C++ and Python, you'll develop the systems that tie perception, control, teleoperation, and autonomy together into a robust, performant whole—from onboard services and inter-process communication to the tooling, logging, and deployment infrastructure that keeps robots healthy in the field. You'll move fluidly across the stack, equally comfortable profiling a latency-sensitive onboard service as extending the tools operators and engineers use every day.
Core Responsibilities:
- On-Robot Software Development: Design, implement, and maintain core onboard services and libraries in C++ and Python, with attention to performance, reliability, and clean interfaces.
- Systems Integration: Connect perception, control, teleoperation, and autonomy components into cohesive, well-instrumented robot behaviors; own cross-cutting concerns like message transport (gRPC, WebRTC), process lifecycle, and configuration.
- Deployment & Release: Build and improve the pipelines that package, version, and deploy software to robots in the field, including Docker-based environments and CI/CD workflows.
- Observability & Data: Extend onboard logging, diagnostics, and telemetry, and the pipelines that move robot data to the cloud (AWS S3 and downstream analytics) for debugging and fleet insight.
- Developer Tooling: Improve the build system, test infrastructure, and developer workflows that keep a fast-moving robotics codebase productive and safe to change.
- Field Support: Debug issues on real robots in real deployments, and harden the stack against the messiness of production environments.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with controls, AI, teleoperation, and hardware engineers to define interfaces and land features end-to-end.
Required Qualifications:
- Software Engineering Depth: Proven experience building production software systems, with strong fluency in modern C++ and Python.
- Robotics or Real-Time Systems Experience: Hands-on experience developing software for robots or other latency-sensitive, safety-conscious physical systems.
- Linux Systems Proficiency: Deep comfort developing, debugging, and profiling on Linux, including networking, processes, and system performance.
- Distributed Communication: Experience with inter-process and networked communication frameworks such as gRPC, WebRTC, DDS, or similar middleware.
- Infrastructure Fluency: Working knowledge of Docker, CI/CD systems, and cloud services (AWS preferred) as they apply to robot software delivery.
- Software Craftsmanship: Track record of writing well-tested, maintainable code and improving codebases through good architecture, code review, and tooling.
- End-to-End Ownership: Demonstrated ability to take features from design through deployment and field validation with minimal supervision.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with humanoid or mobile manipulation platforms.
- Familiarity with teleoperation systems, VR interfaces, or low-latency media streaming.
- Experience with robot fleet management, remote deployment, or over-the-air update systems.
- Exposure to build systems such as Bazel or CMake at scale.
- Experience with data pipelines and analytics tooling (Athena, OpenSearch, or similar).
