Memory Care Director
About The Ivy of McKinney
The Ivy of McKinney provides assisted living, memory care, and respite care. We are part of Surpass Senior Living, and our mission is simple: we keep families connected. Named Best of McKinney in 2025, our community pairs personalized care with first-class accommodations, amenities, and programming that keeps residents active and thriving.
Our Memory Care neighborhood runs New Traditions, our proprietary, evidence-based dementia care program built around the whole person rather than the diagnosis. It brings families into the care process at every step, and it includes Timeless Table, our signature dining experience that serves the recipes residents grew up with. A Certified Dementia Practitioner developed the program, and every caregiver, nurse, and Resident Care Partner on our team trains in Alzheimer's and dementia care.
About the Role
You will lead the daily life of our Memory Care neighborhood. You build the program calendar, coach the caregivers who deliver it, and keep families close to the people they love. You report to the Health & Wellness Director and supervise the Memory Care department staff.
What You'll Do
- Plan a monthly program calendar through our Whole-Person Wellness model, with engagement across physical, intellectual, social, emotional, vocational, and spiritual needs, then publish the monthly newsletter and calendar plus weekly and daily schedules.
- Train, schedule, and coach caregivers to lead assigned programs and adapt activities so every resident can take part successfully.
- Maintain a safe secured environment through resident checks, door alarm awareness, and wander and elopement vigilance.
- Coordinate person-centered responses to behavioral expressions in line with New Traditions and the memory care clinical manual.
- Assess each resident's life history and preferences, keep the Discovery Book current, and help set service plans.
- Build and supervise outing plans, including at least one Memory Care outing each month, and review them quarterly.
- Partner with families on communication and dementia-specific care decisions, host in-house events with our marketing team, and use LifeLoop to keep families connected between visits.
- Manage program expenses within the monthly budget, including correct coding of Memory Care costs.
- Serve on the Manager on Duty rotation and take part in EOS, including weekly Level 10 meetings, quarterly Rocks, and role Scorecard metrics.
What You'll Bring
- Two years of experience in a social or recreational program serving older adults living with dementia within the past five years, at least one of them full time in an activity program in a health care or assisted living setting.
- Two years working with people living with dementia, including leading groups, building social interaction, and assisting with activities of daily living.
- Experience assessing resident needs and developing approaches that ease discomfort and improve daily well-being.
- Licensed LVN/LPN
- Direct management experience in dementia care.
- Eligibility under state regulatory requirements for the position.
- Preferred: a degree in social work, psychology, gerontology, therapeutic recreation, or nursing.
Who Thrives Here
You bring the energy to get a room of residents and staff involved. You stay calm and patient when the day shifts. You train well side by side, stay open to new methods, and hold a genuine commitment to the well-being of seniors living with dementia.
