Description

Universal Store
From our humble beginnings as a suburban unisex clothing store in 1999, we’ve grown to more than 100 stores nationally and now deliver the latest in apparel to customers around the world through our thriving online store. Our team carefully curates a mix of local and international labels, working collaboratively to develop exclusive styles and collections that give our customers head to toe outfitting options for every occasion.
Today, we’re proud to be recognised as one of Australia’s leading youth fashion retailers. We’ve built and grown brands such as Neovision, Common Need, Luck & Trouble, and Worship, and we continue to partner with global favourites including Front Runner, Abrand, Rusty, Lioness, Motel. As our business has expanded, we’ve welcomed the Perfect Stranger and Thrills brands into our portfolio, allowing us to offer an even broader range of fits, styles and pieces that reflect the diversity of our customer base.
No matter the style, our mission remains the same: elevate every outfit and deliver customer service that goes above and beyond.

The OpportunityAre you constantly saving inspiration, spotting trends before they hit the mainstream and thinking about what customers will want to wear next? We're looking for a passionate and forward-thinking Menswear Designer to join our Product Team and help shape the future of our private label brands.

Reporting to the Head of Private Brand Design and based at our Eagle Farm Support Office, you'll play a key role in creating product that connects with our customer and stands out in the youth fashion market. From trend forecasting and concept development through to print design, garment fittings and final product execution, you'll have the opportunity to influence every stage of the design journey.
This is a hands-on role for someone who thrives on turning ideas into product, has a genuine passion for youth culture and fashion, and understands how to balance creativity with commercial success.

Key responsibilities include:

Identifying emerging fashion, streetwear and cultural trends that will inspire future collections and keep our brands ahead of the curve
Designing commercially relevant menswear product that reflects our brand DNA and resonates with the Universal Store customer
Creating original graphics, prints, washes and design concepts that bring seasonal stories to life
Translating trend insights, customer behaviour and market opportunities into compelling product ranges
Driving the design process from concept through to production, ensuring product is delivered to a high standard of fit, quality and execution
Collaborating closely with Buying, Planning and Production teams to build balanced and commercially successful collections
Conducting garment fittings and sample reviews to continually refine product, fit and construction
Partnering with local and international suppliers to source fabrics, develop product innovations and achieve the best possible outcomes
Exploring new categories, silhouettes and product opportunities that strengthen our private label brands
Staying connected to global fashion movements through trend forecasting, market research, sourcing opportunities and industry inspiration

About You You're all about fashion, youth culture and great product. You have a strong creative eye, a commercial mindset and a natural ability to translate inspiration into product customers genuinely want to wear.

You love the idea of seeing your designs come to life, from the first concept sketch through to landing in-store and online.

You'll bring:

Experience in a Fashion Designer, Menswear Designer or Product Designer role within apparel, streetwear, youth fashion or a fast-paced retail environment
A strong understanding of the youth fashion landscape and the trends, brands and cultural influences shaping today's customer
Proven experience developing commercially successful product across multiple categories
Strong graphic and print design capabilities, with experience creating original artwork, placements and seasonal concepts
Advanced Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop skills
A solid understanding of garment construction, fit, fabrication and product development processes
The ability to identify emerging trends and translate them into relevant and commercially viable product
Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to build effective relationships across Design, Buying, Production and supplier networks
