Job Summary
The MEP Designer/Engineer (DE) plays a critical role in the successful execution of MEP project design from inception to completion. This position involves preparation and assistance with organization of project documentation, coordination with architectural teams and consultants, and ensuring that all project deliverables meet Rogue Architects' standards, budgets, timelines, and quality expectations. The ideal candidate will demonstrate independence in project design with direction from supervisor, ability to mentor junior staff in various areas such as design or company standards and continuously strive for excellence in project outcomes.

Roles & Responsibilities
  • Project Leadership:
    • Self-manages the accurate implementation of information and the delivery of documents through all phases of the project, including minimal construction administration and lessons learned.
  • Project Documentation:
    • Engages actively in the preparation of project documentation, which includes, but is not limited to, conducting and documenting building surveys, designing MEP systems, and creating construction documents.
    • Modifies or creates documents and drawings with some guidance applying engineering techniques and utilizing independent judgement.
  • Team Collaboration:
    • Collaborates with other disciplines to ensure building systems are successfully coordinated.
    • Collaborates with other disciplines to develop solutions within project constraints, such as goals, budgets, timeframes, local and state ordinances, and codes.
  • Client and Consultant Interaction:
    • Begins to develop and maintain positive client relationships, ensuring effective communication with all project stakeholders to guarantee a complete understanding of project scope and objectives.
    • Leverages firm resources, including project personnel and administrative staff, to facilitate project progress.
  • Project Execution:
    • Able to conduct as-built surveys, gathering photos, dimensions and information on site to create thorough and accurate as-built drawings.
    • Actively participates in the creation of construction documents, mainly through drafting and design, and/or supervising junior staff.
    • Performs construction administration duties, including RFI responses and submittals.
    • Monitors and anticipates potential issues, working proactively with the team to resolve them.
    • Ensures that project designs are delivered on time and within budget by reviewing and executing project schedules.
  • Quality Assurance:
    • Performs initial QA/QC procedures required for their project design, including scheduling of reviews and follow-through.
    • Schedules and coordinates the issuance of completed documents and affidavits, arranging for sealing as required.
  • Financial Management:
    • Collaborates with senior leadership on project financial performance, including negotiating additional services and monitoring cost overruns.
    • Maintains accountability to project plans and utilization rates, and ensures projects are delivered within defined budget requirements.
  • Project Monitoring:
    • Monitors project progress using tools such as Ajera, responsible for timesheet and expense report approvals, logs project data, and manages KPI tracking.
  • Opportunities and Marketing:
    • Identifies new opportunities with current clients and assists in marketing for repeat business.

Skills & Abilities
  • Strong organizational, leadership, and communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Proficiency in applicable software such as Revit, AutoCAD, Carrier HAP or AGI32.
  • Strong understanding of architectural and MEP building systems, building codes, and construction documentation processes.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously in various phases.
  • Effective problem-solving and conflict resolution skills.
  • Ability to manage project budgets and schedules.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and project management tools such as Ajera.
  • Ability to work under pressure and manage stress effectively.

Work Environment
  • Standard office conditions with typical noise levels.
  • May involve occasional exposure to construction site environments.

Physical Demands
  • Regularly required to sit, stand, and walk.
  • May involve occasional local and out-of-state travel to perform surveys in various conditions.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work
  • Full-time position.
  • Primarily hybrid, three days in office and 2 days remote.
  • Typical office hours are Monday through Friday, 8 AM to 5 PM with some flexibility, as approved by supervisors.

Travel
  • Travel may be required as needed.
  • Site visits as needed.

Education and Experience
  • Accredited degree in Engineering or a related field (Preferred but not required).
  • Typically, 2-4 years of independent project design in one or more disciplines. This includes performing calculations and applying building codes.
  • Proficiency with Energy Compliance Checks
  • Certifications in relevant drafting software or discipline (i.e. CPD) is a plus.
  • Having passed the Practices and Principles of Engineering exam (PE) is a plus.
