Job Summary
The Metal Recycling Operations Manager will oversee daily recycling-yard operations, ensuring the safe, efficient, and orderly handling of metal scrap materials. The role includes supervising workers, coordinating material movements, maintaining inventory records, monitoring equipment condition, and providing timely operational and stock reports to management.
Key Responsibilities
Manage daily yard operations, including receiving, loading, unloading, sorting, segregation, weighing, processing, storage, and dispatch of metal scrap.
Supervise the handling of ferrous and non-ferrous metals, including aluminium, copper, brass, bronze, stainless steel, iron, steel, cables, and motors.
Plan manpower deployment, daily work schedules, and work priorities to ensure smooth and timely operations.
Supervise general workers and site personnel, ensuring productivity, discipline, and compliance with company procedures.
Enforce workplace safety requirements, including use of PPE, safe handling practices, housekeeping, and risk-control measures.
Conduct routine checks on machinery, equipment, weighing scales, storage areas, lifting tools, forklifts, and site infrastructure.
Report machinery faults, breakdowns, and maintenance requirements promptly to management.
Coordinate with transporters, drivers, suppliers, contractors, buyers, and internal trading or logistics teams regarding collection, delivery, loading schedules, and material movement.
Monitor incoming and outgoing stock movements and ensure materials are properly weighed, recorded, identified, segregated, and stored.
Maintain accurate records of materials received, processed, stored, and dispatched using Microsoft Excel or internal stock-tracking systems.
Prepare and submit daily stock, operational, and material-movement reports to management.
Maintain updated information on stock quantities, material grades, storage locations, and pending collections or deliveries.
Identify opportunities to improve yard layout, reduce material losses, improve recovery rates, and increase operational productivity.
Perform other site-management, operational, or administrative duties assigned by management.
Job Requirements
Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Operations Management, Engineering, Logistics, Supply Chain, or a related field. Candidates with strong relevant experience may also be considered.
At least 2–5 years of relevant experience in a metal recycling yard, scrap-metal trading company, waste-management facility, industrial plant, warehouse, or similar operational environment.
Practical knowledge of ferrous and non-ferrous metal grades, including aluminium, copper, brass, bronze, stainless steel, iron, and steel.
Experience in scrap sorting, segregation, weighing, storage, loading, unloading, and inventory control.
Familiarity with recycling-yard equipment such as shears, balers, shredders, cutting equipment, forklifts, weighing scales, lifting equipment, and material-handling tools.
Ability to supervise workers, coordinate daily operations, resolve operational issues, and maintain productivity and discipline.
Working knowledge of workplace safety procedures, housekeeping standards, and safe handling of industrial materials and equipment.
Proficient in Microsoft Excel and comfortable using stock-tracking, inventory-management, or operational-reporting systems.
Strong communication, coordination, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
Able to work independently in a fast-paced industrial and outdoor recycling-yard environment.
Physically fit and willing to perform site-based operational duties when required.
Preferred Skills
Experience coordinating scrap-metal collection and delivery schedules with transporters and logistics providers.
Forklift-operation experience or possession of a valid forklift licence.
Experience coordinating operations across multiple recycling-yard locations in Singapore.
