The Isbergues Research Center is the laboratory dedicated to stainless steel for APERAM Stainless Europe division. It is the expertise center regarding metallurgy, elaboration and transformation, in-use properties and fabrication of flat stainless steels. The different research teams contribute to the design and development of new stainless steel products to enlarge the APERAM offer.

In order to further accelerate ongoing R&D programs, we are looking for a Stainless Steel Metallurgy Researcher. Reinforcing existing teams, your contribution will be key to lead to success high stakes projects in relation with energy and capital goods.

By integrating the Isbergues Research Center, you will benefit from a learning path with several mentors specialised in different scientific fields. You will be progressively able to take increasing responsibilities regarding project management but also have evolution opportunities inside the company.

Within the Research & Development department, you will be required to:

  • As a metallurgy researcher, contribute to new product development projects, taking in charge the design of new stainless steel grades, the definition of their metallurgical route, the follow-up of the industrialisation trials and the coordination of in-use property characterizations.
  • Manage new product development projects:
    • Define action plans and R&D deliverables in close collaboration with commercial teams, production teams and R&D program managers,
    • Evaluate and negotiate the necessary resources,
    • Execute action plans,
    • Communicate results through presentations and reports.
  • Manage research facilities to guarantee availability and quality of results for the research center.
  • Manage research technicians, in hierarchical or functional situations.

You are a great match for this position if…

  • You have sound knowledge of microstructure evolution mechanisms and microstructure-property relations in metallic materials
  • You are able to manage multidisciplinary projects in a matricial organisation with many interactions between departments and with external partners
  • You are able to move several projects forward in parallel
  • You are curious, willing to learn, including about stainless steel markets
  • You are autonomous, proactive, entrepreneurial and result-oriented
  • You have solid communication skills (written and spoken)
  • You are fluent in English and French
  • You have an Engineering/Master degree in Material Science and a PhD or first significant experience in R&D
