Microsoft 365 & SharePoint Engineer (Public Sector)
About the Role
We are looking for a hands-on Digital Workplace Engineer to design, build and support modern workplace solutions across SharePoint Online, Microsoft 365 and the Power Platform. The role will help digitise business processes, improve collaboration, strengthen document and records management, and deliver user-friendly productivity solutions that are secure, scalable and aligned to enterprise standards. The candidate should also have practical AI literacy and be able to use AI tools responsibly to augment solution design, development, documentation, testing, support and user adoption.
This role sits within the Platform & Software Engineering Division and will work closely with business users, product owners, platform engineers, security, records management and IT stakeholders. The successful candidate will translate requirements into practical Microsoft 365 solutions, automate manual workflows, integrate workplace tools with Azure and enterprise systems, and support the adoption of digital workplace capabilities across JTC.
The role will also support JTC's digital workplace modernisation journey through the migration of content, sites, workflows and business solutions from legacy SharePoint environments, including SG-DCS and SharePoint 2013, to SharePoint Online. The successful candidate will be expected to plan and execute migration activities, perform assessments and remediation, utilise migration tools such as ShareGate, and work closely with stakeholders to minimise business disruption during migration programmes.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop and administer SharePoint Online sites, intranet portals, collaboration spaces, document libraries, lists, permissions and information architecture.
- Set up, configure and support SharePoint on-premises environments, including SharePoint 2013 and later versions, covering farm configuration, service applications, permissions, content databases and operational readiness.
- Plan and execute SharePoint on-premises upgrades and migrations from SharePoint 2013 to later versions or SharePoint Online, including assessment, content migration, remediation, testing, cutover planning and post-migration support.
- Plan and execute end-to-end migration activities from SG-DCS and other legacy SharePoint platforms to SharePoint Online, including discovery, content analysis, migration planning, remediation of unsupported customisations, stakeholder engagement, migration execution using tools such as ShareGate, validation and hypercare support.
- Build custom SharePoint solutions using SharePoint Framework (SPFx), React, TypeScript, JavaScript and Microsoft Graph API.
- Develop Power Apps and Power Automate workflows to digitise business processes, reduce manual effort and improve operational visibility.
- Implement Microsoft Lists, Microsoft Forms, Power BI and Dataverse-based solutions where appropriate to support business productivity and reporting needs.
- Gather requirements from business stakeholders, analyse current processes and translate needs into practical solution designs and delivery plans.
- Integrate Microsoft 365 solutions with Azure services, REST APIs and enterprise applications using Azure Functions, Logic Apps, API Management and secure integration patterns.
- Support document and records management requirements, including metadata, retention considerations, access control, auditability and compliance-aligned usage patterns.
- Implement secure identity, access and application integration using Microsoft Entra ID, delegated permissions, app registrations and least-privilege practices.
- Use Azure Storage, Key Vault, Azure Monitor and other Azure services to support secure, observable and maintainable workplace solutions.
- Maintain development workflows using Visual Studio Code, Azure DevOps, GitHub, Git, CI/CD pipelines, REST APIs and Postman.
- Use AI-assisted tools such as Microsoft 365 Copilot, GitHub Copilot, Copilot Studio or equivalent tools responsibly to improve development productivity, documentation quality, testing, troubleshooting and user support.
- Provide stakeholder engagement, user support, solution documentation, training materials and adoption guidance to ensure workplace solutions are effectively used.
- Work in agile delivery teams to iteratively design, build, test, release and improve digital workplace capabilities based on user feedback and business outcomes.
Required Skills and Experience
- 5–7 years of experience developing SharePoint Online, Microsoft 365 and digital workplace solutions in enterprise environments.
- Experience setting up, configuring and supporting SharePoint on-premises environments, including SharePoint 2013 and later versions.
- Experience planning and executing SharePoint upgrades and migrations from SharePoint 2013 to later versions or SharePoint Online, including migration assessment, remediation, testing and cutover support.
- Hands-on experience using SharePoint migration tools such as ShareGate, Microsoft Migration Manager or equivalent tools to assess, migrate and validate content, permissions, metadata and site structures from legacy SharePoint environments to SharePoint Online.
- Hands-on experience building Power Apps and Power Automate workflows for business process digitisation and automation.
- Experience implementing intranet, collaboration, document management and records management solutions using SharePoint Online and Microsoft 365.
- Practical experience with SPFx, React, TypeScript, JavaScript and Microsoft Graph API integration.
- Experience integrating Microsoft 365 solutions with Azure services, REST APIs and enterprise applications.
- Working knowledge of Azure Functions, Azure Logic Apps, Azure API Management, Azure Storage, Azure Key Vault, Microsoft Entra ID and Azure Monitor.
- Experience using Visual Studio Code, Azure DevOps, GitHub, Git, CI/CD pipelines, REST APIs and Postman as part of the development lifecycle.
- Practical AI literacy, with the ability to use AI-assisted tools to augment requirements analysis, solution design, development, testing, documentation and operational support while applying appropriate review and governance.
- Strong understanding of Microsoft 365 and Power Platform capabilities, including SharePoint Online, Power Apps, Power Automate, Power BI, Microsoft Lists, Microsoft Forms and Dataverse.
- Ability to gather requirements, facilitate discussions with business stakeholders and translate process needs into solution designs.
- Experience delivering solutions in agile teams, including backlog refinement, sprint delivery, testing, release planning and continuous improvement.
- Strong documentation, communication and user support skills, with the ability to explain technical solutions to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Preferred Skills
- Experience delivering large-scale SharePoint modernisation and migration programmes involving SG-DCS, SharePoint 2013, SharePoint Server or other legacy collaboration platforms, including migration governance, user adoption and change management activities.
- Experience with Microsoft 365 Copilot, Copilot Studio or AI-enabled workplace productivity solutions.
- Exposure to Azure OpenAI, Azure AI Foundry or AI-assisted business process automation patterns.
- Experience working in government, regulated or security-conscious enterprise environments.
- Experience operating in Government Commercial Cloud (GCC) environments or similar controlled cloud environments.
- Familiarity with compliance, audit, retention, records management and information governance requirements in Microsoft 365.
- Experience building reusable templates, components, automation patterns or adoption playbooks for digital workplace solutions.

Ideal Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate is a strong Microsoft 365 and SharePoint practitioner who is equally comfortable building hands-on Power Platform solutions and engaging directly with business users. They should be able to understand business processes, design fit-for-purpose solutions, automate manual work and deliver end-to-end productivity and collaboration capabilities across the Microsoft ecosystem. They should possess practical experience planning and executing SharePoint migration projects, understand common migration challenges associated with legacy platforms, and be comfortable using migration tools such as ShareGate to support assessment, migration and validation activities. They should also be familiar with Azure cloud services, secure integration patterns, agile delivery practices and the practical use of AI to augment their own work and improve business user productivity.
