Mid-Level Design Engineer

JOB SUMMARY The Mid-Level Design Engineer is responsible for developing reliable and manufacturable mechanical designs for machines, equipment, and related assemblies. This role is crucial in converting project and customer requirements into 3D models, detailed manufacturing drawings, and comprehensive engineering documentation. The Design Engineer will support timely project execution by coordinating with production, manufacturing, purchasing, and service teams, ensuring design accuracy, safety, standardization, and cost-effective solutions. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES - Develop machine concepts, mechanisms, and mechanical components based on approved requirements. Select suitable materials and standard components while performing basic design calculations and checks. - Create and maintain SolidWorks part models and assemblies, prepare manufacturing drawings, and generate Bills of Materials (BOMs) and component details. Ensure compliance with drawing standards, dimensions, fits, tolerances, and GD&T as required. - Collaborate with production, machining, fabrication, and assembly teams to clarify drawings and incorporate approved manufacturability feedback. Resolve drawing-related issues and support trial/commissioning feedback. - Conduct self-checks before submission/release of designs, maintain revision history, and ensure compliance with applicable QMS and departmental procedures. - Plan assigned design tasks with the reporting manager/project team, track progress, and coordinate interfaces across machine assemblies to support timely completion of project milestones. - Identify opportunities for continuous improvement and standardization, reusing approved standard components and design practices where appropriate. REQUIRED SKILLS - Proficiency in SolidWorks for 3D part modeling, assemblies, configurations, and drawing generation. - Experience with AutoCAD for 2D manufacturing, fabrication, and layout drawings. - Strong understanding of machine design fundamentals including shafts, bearings, gears, drives, fasteners, fits, tolerances, and material selection. - Knowledge of GD&T, BOM preparation, design calculations, manufacturability, and drawing revision control. - Excellent analytical thinking and problem-solving skills, along with effective cross-functional communication and teamwork abilities. - Attention to detail, ownership of tasks, and a commitment to timely execution are essential for success in this role.
