The Role
As a Mid Backend Software Engineer, you'll independently design, build, and optimize backend systems, not just implement tickets. You'll help shape scalable architecture, keep code quality high, and act as a technical reference point for junior engineers on the team. This is a role for someone who's past needing guardrails and ready to help set them for others.
What You'll Do
- Independently design, develop, and optimize backend solutions end to end.
- Design scalable backend systems with maintainability and performance in mind.
- Contribute to the development and improvement of CI/CD pipelines.
- Develop unit tests and automate workflows to keep code quality high.
- Act as a technical reference for junior engineers --- guidance, not hand-holding.
- Document backend systems so the whole team can build on them, not just you.
- Collaborate cross-functionally to improve APIs and database systems.
What We're Looking For (Must-Have)
- Professional experience with JavaScript, TypeScript, and Python, implementing real business logic autonomously.
- Solid hands‑on experience with Express, FastAPI, or Fastify, and designing scalable backend services.
- Strong PostgreSQL skills, schema design, query optimization, data integrity.
- Experience with Kafka or similar for asynchronous, service-to-service communication.
- Comfortable working across dev, staging, and production environments.
- You write clean, testable code, and you're just as comfortable reviewing someone else's.
Nice to Have
- Prior experience mentoring or supporting junior engineers.
- Exposure to cloud environments and deployment support.
- A track record of proposing system or process improvements, not just executing them.
