Middle School Associate

Summary

Assists a Montessori lead teacher by maintaining the classroom, observing student progress, and supporting individualized learning for middle-schoolers.

A Middle School Montessori Associate supports the Lead Teacher, students, and the Middle School program by helping to maintain the prepared environment, observing and documenting student progress, assisting with individualized academic and social-emotional support, and facilitating community and authentic learning experiences. The role involves fostering the Montessori principles of independence, responsibility, and the "Four Cs" (critical thinking, collaboration, creativity, communication) while ensuring a safe, structured, and respectful classroom setting for middle school students.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support Lead Teacher & Program:
  • Assist lead teachers in preparing and implementing the middle school Montessori program, helping with daily instruction, and understanding student support and progress. Support student learning both in push-in and pull-out environments, working with students 1:1 and in small groups.

  • Maintain the Environment:
  • Help prepare, organize, replenish, and clean materials and the classroom environment to ensure it remains a prepared, safe, and functional space.

  • Facilitate Student Learning:
    • Work with small groups and individual students on assignments and materials.
    • Observe and document student progress, identifying areas for further support and contributing to individualized plans.
    • Redirect students to make responsible, challenging, and appropriate work choices within the classroom.

  • Foster Student Development:
    • Model integrity, curiosity, responsibility, respect, and creativity.
    • Guide students in developing independence and a sense of community.
    • Protect the confidentiality and peace of the classroom environment and student work.

  • Community & Collaboration:
    • Collaborate with teachers and support staff.
    • Communicate effectively and respectfully with students, families, and community members.
    • Participate in field overnight trips, conferences, and other experiential learning activities.
    • Serve as an advisor, which includes facilitating a weekly advisory group, checking in with students, and managing communication with advisees' families.

  • Classroom Management & Logistics:
    • Assist with classroom management and supervision during transitions.
    • Help with administrative tasks like record-keeping and communication for newsletters.
