Oak Hall School, a private independent day school in Gainesville, Florida, is seeking an experienced English and Language Arts educator to join our Middle School faculty team. In the Middle School, we are proud to offer dynamic and interactive learning within a robust college-preparatory curriculum, and strive to intentionally connect our students' interests, strengths, and talents to their academic studies. In this role, we are seeking an English and Language Arts educator who values fostering critical thinking through literary analysis, and the development of excellent writing skills. Most notably, we seek educators who embrace the opportunity to guide Middle School students through transformational stages in their academic and social-emotional growth.

  • Actively support the mission of Oak Hall School in all aspects of student engagement
  • Prepare and teach five sections of Middle School English and/or Language Arts, focused on developing confident, fluent writers and critical, insightful readers
  • Deliver curriculum in a developmentally and intellectually appropriate, and creatively engaging manner
  • Promote a positive classroom environment and demonstrate strong classroom management skills to create and maintain a learning environment that ensures high levels of learning for all students
  • Assess and document each students performance and progress both formally and informally to meet the School's standards, and provide regular feedback to students and their parents
  • Maintain accurate and confidential records of students
  • Plan, evaluate, and revise curriculum, course content, course materials, and methods of instruction as needed
  • Keep current and accurate course assignments and grades posted
  • Be an active and collaborative member of the English Department, the Middle School team, and the greater Oak Hall community
  • Serve as Advisor to a group of assigned middle school students
  • Sponsor a club or student activity
  • Serve as a mentor and advocate for your students
  • Be a role model of integrity and professionalism
  • Be available throughout the workday to advise and assist students
  • Maintain expertise in subject matter through professional development
  • Meet regular attendance requirements, including attending faculty, division and other School meetings, professional days, graduation, and other required events
  • Adhere to School policies as described in the Employee Handbook and other materials
  • Other duties as assigned
