The Middleware Deputy Team Leader supports the Middleware Tower Lead in driving the strategy, governance and operational excellence of the Middleware landscape. The role combines strong technical expertise with leadership potential and provides a clear succession path toward full tower leadership responsibilities.
Responsibilities:
Support the architecture and strategy of the Middleware domain.
Lead engineering and operational activities across IBM MQ, Apache Kafka, JBoss EAP, Apache Tomcat, WebSphere, API and integration frameworks, Middleware security and hardening, and platform automation.
Support platform modernization initiatives, technical troubleshooting and major incident management.
Act as deputy for the Middleware Tower Lead, coordinating engineering and support teams, managing escalations, stakeholder expectations and operational commitments.
Ensure compliance, governance, audit, risk and control activities, vendor engagements, capacity, resilience and continuity planning.
Support budget planning, cost management, resource planning and modernization business cases.
Drive automation, self-service, service quality improvements, DevOps and SRE principles, reduce technical debt and introduce engineering best practices.
Requirements:
8+ years in Middleware engineering and operations.
Previous technical leadership or team coordination experience.
Experience in mission-critical enterprise systems.
Exposure to banking or highly regulated environments.
Must Have: IBM MQ, Kafka, JBoss/Tomcat, Linux administration, Middleware troubleshooting, Automation and scripting, High Availability architectures, Performance tuning, Monitoring and observability.
Nice to Have: API Management, Kubernetes/OpenShift, DevOps practices, CI/CD pipelines, Cloud-native integration services, Event-driven architecture.
