Job Summary: Job Class 026, Labor Grade 5
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Conscientiously work toward running a safer and cleaner operation.
- Ensure that all guards are always in place.
- Inform the supervisors of any maintenance problems or suggested changes to equipment.
- Assists on changeovers under mill operator's direction until the setup is complete. Operate splicer and shear press.
- Complete production paperwork.
- Watch incoming material for all types of defects.
- Assist in necessary adjustments for the straightening and quality checks required. Assist in monitoring the quality level of all products.
- Be responsible for the availability of the proper incoming materials for the next job.
- Run the mill through all breaks and assume responsibilities of the operator during that time.
- Clamp the tail end of the existing coil and weld it to the next slit coil. Then release the overhead clamp and monitor the weld through the overhead and the edge conditioners. Follow the weld through the entire mill and make sure that all open welds are sorted out.
- Responsible for making any necessary adjustments to the edge tools or temper mill.
- Alert the Mill Operator that the weld is coming.
- Position involves some lifting, pushing and pulling, bending and twisting.
- Is responsible for the straightness of the product and for determining the surface finish quality of the tubing.
- Continuously watches and sorts out unacceptable product.
- Is responsible for length changes under the mill operator's direction.
- Must be able to check cut tubing for correct length.
- Assists in making tests under the direction of the mill operator.
- The Mill Cut-Off Operator will watch for the butt weld.
- Responsible for painting the open weld areas.
- Will cut the painted tubing out of the mill and take a sample of the first tube after the painted tube. This sample will be inspected for OD, ID, and visual defects. Destructive tests will also be performed. During these tests, all tubing will be held on the output table. If the tests are acceptable, all tubing on the table will be accepted. If the tests are rejected, tubing will be sequentially tested to determine when acceptable material was produced.
- Responsible for getting the bad tubing into the scrap bunker.
- Monitors quality during operators breaks.
- Assumes various other duties at the direction of the shift supervisor.
