Are you passionate about mindfulness, wellbeing, and supporting communities in a safe, trauma‑informed way?
Do you thrive in group facilitation, enjoy connecting with diverse communities, and value culturally grounded practice?
The Opportunity
We are looking for a warm, grounded, and culturally responsive AMA Group Facilitator to deliver our Aotearoa Mindfulness and Awareness (AMA) programme across Tāmaki Health clinics and community venues.
AMA is evidence‑based programme adapted from the gold‑standard Mindfulness‑Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) programme. Our free 6‑week course (2.5 hours weekly, daytime and evening) is offered across Auckland for patients enrolled in the Tāmaki Health network. AMA blends mindfulness meditation, psychoeducation, and Te Ao Māori perspectives to support the wellbeing of individuals, whānau, and communities.
As a facilitator, you will guide participants through mindfulness practices, support their wellbeing journey, and create safe, inclusive, culturally grounded group environments. You will work closely with the AMA Clinical Lead, WST Coordination Team, and wider Tāmaki Health staff to ensure high‑quality delivery and seamless integration within our Stepped Model of Care.
This is a part‑time, casual role, ideal for someone passionate about mindfulness, group facilitation, and community wellbeing. We are seeking someone who can facilitate two AMA programmes per week (daytime and/or evening) across South Auckland locations. Full training, supervision, and ongoing mentoring are provided.
What You’ll Do
Deliver the AMA curriculum with fidelity, ensuring sessions are trauma‑informed, culturally safe, and aligned with Te Ao Māori values
Facilitate 6‑week group programmes across South Auckland, during daytime and/or evening
Engage with participants before programmes begin to support readiness and understanding
Complete programme documentation including attendance, psychometric measures, and evaluation data
Support referrals and coordination when required
Participate in supervision, training, and reflective practice
Maintain a daily personal mindfulness practice
What You’ll Bring
Bachelor’s degree in psychology, counselling, social work, or equivalent. Current students may be considered.
Experience supporting individuals or groups in health, mental health, social services, or wellbeing settings, including people experiencing stress, anxiety, low mood, or life challenges
Commitment to a daily personal mindfulness practice
Strong communication skills and cultural humility
Ability to hold safe, inclusive group spaces
Group facilitation experience is not required, full training and ongoing support are provided
Who are we?
Tāmaki Health's "Wellness Support Team (WST)" was established in 2012 and is led by pioneering primary mental health psychiatrist Dr David Codyre. Recognised with the Best Mental Health Programme award at the 2021 New Zealand Primary Healthcare Awards, the WST delivers holistic care for people of all ages and whānau. The Wellness Support Team supports Tāmaki Health's General Practice teams to better meet patient wellbeing needs via a multi-faceted programme, including providing evidence-based psychological interventions integrated within primary care. From individual to group interventions, the diverse multidisciplinary team - including psychologists, therapists, Health Improvement Practitioners, Health Coaches, GPs with advanced training in mental health, administrative support, and group facilitators – provides a rich suite of services in GP clinics and the community. At the heart of the Wellness Support Teams mission is a commitment to innovation, accessibility, and culturally safe care. This is underpinned by Tāmaki Health’s organisational values. We believe we are here to serve, so we work as one, strive for a better tomorrow, be available, and take care of each other for the better good.
If you’re passionate about mindfulness, community wellbeing, and delivering safe, culturally grounded group programmes, we’d love to hear from you.
