Drills holes in rock for the placement of explosives.
o Operates hand held or machine mounted rock drills.
o Accurately positions, aligns and drills holes following the blast‐hole plan.
Loads blast holes with explosives.
o Prepares primers and detonators.
o Loads and tamps the correct quantity of explosives in each hole as directed.
o Assists in the completion of the blasting circuit.
Performs pre‐blasting and post‐blasting functions.
o Removes drills, pumps, hoses, hand tools and equipment from the blast area.
o Repositions pumps, hoses and equipment after the blast.
o Adds or removes utilities as directed.
Ventilation ducts and devices.
Air lines, water lines, communication lines, rail.
Prepares the site for mucking (removal of broken rock).
o Wets the muck pile to suppress blasting fumes.
o Scales loose material from the roof and ribs using scaling bars.
o Adds, replaces and repairs ventilation devices as necessary.
Assists as needed in the mucking cycle.
o Tends hoses, unhooks and hooks muck buckets.
o Relays signals to the Hoist Operator.
Installs short term roof and rib support as required.
o Installs temporary roof jacks as required.
o Uses hand held or machine mounted rock drills to install rock bolts in the roof and ribs.
Installs permanent roof and rib support.
o Installs timbers, steel sets, steel liner plates, wooden or steel lagging as required.
o Ties rebar, removes and resets concrete forms maintaining correct alignments.
o Places concrete using concrete buckets or concrete pumps.
Generally performs all duties associated with the construction of the project that are not specifically
assigned to others.
