Mission Systems Test Engineer

Summary

The Mission Systems Test Engineer will test, integrate, and evaluate avionics, communications, and mission systems for military aircraft. The role involves developing test procedures, analyzing system performance, and resolving defects using specialized test equipment.

Greenfield Engineering, a Saalex Company, is seeking a Mission Systems Test Engineer in Lexington Park, MD to support the H-1 Helicopter Avionics Test Facility and related military aviation programs. This role is responsible for the testing, integration, and evaluation of avionics, communications, mission systems, and COMSEC-enabled technologies that support aircraft modernization and operational readiness across multiple NAVAIR platforms.

Position Type: Full-Time

Salary: $78k-$127k annually (depending on experience)

Work Location: Onsite

Essential Functions:

  • Develop and execute test procedure for avionics, radio, and weapon system and H1 software/hardware upgrades.
  • Develop detailed system and subsystem test requirements from high-level operational and system specifications for software/hardware implementation of avionics and communications systems.
  • Perform hands-on testing and integration of navigation and communication systems/subsystems.
  • Utilize specialized test equipment, Bus Collection Computer, Satellite Simulators for systems integration and compliance testing.
  • Analyze system performance data, including timing metrics and operational compliance, to validate system functionality and safety.
  • Investigate and resolve incident reports and defects, determining root causes and implementing corrective actions.
  • Provide customer support for aircrew procedures trainers, flight testing, and cockpit upgrade programs.
  • Participate in technical conferences and qualification testing activities.
  • Other duties as assigned or required.

Requirements

Required:

  • 3+ years of experience in hardware/software testing for military/commercial avionics equipment.
  • Demonstrated experience with avionics navigation and communication systems, including narrow band communications.
  • Working knowledge of COMSEC protocols and secure communications equipment.
  • Proficiency in developing and implementing test procedures for analog, digital, microprocessor, power, and RF electronics.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and documentation skills.
  • Excellent communication and customer support abilities.

Desired:

  • Experience creating and executing software test procedures.
  • Experience with MUOS and other tactical communication links.
  • Experience with H-1 and other NAVAIR platforms.
  • Familiarity with Mil-Std 1553 Bus, SATCOM DAMA/DASA, HF ALE radio, and related avionics systems.
  • Prior experience supporting flight testing, NATOPS conferences.
  • Experience with tactical narrowband communications.
  • Prior experience with avionics and mission systems testing

Education/Years of Experience:

Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Avionics Systems Technology, Computer Systems, IT, or related field and 3+ years of experience required. Masters degree preferred.

Security Clearance:

Active Secret clearance required. Requirements to obtain a clearance include US Citizenship, security investigation, etc.
