About The Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and innovative Principal Machine Learning Scientist to join our Central AI team based in Bellevue, WA, or remotely. In this pivotal role, you will lead the development and deployment of advanced machine learning algorithms and models that drive AI capabilities across Atlassian’s suite of products and services. You will collaborate closely with product managers, engineers, and data scientists to design scalable system architectures, conduct rigorous experimentation, and evaluate model performance. Your expertise will be instrumental in building foundational AI infrastructure, including data pipelines, frameworks, and shared experiences such as search, knowledge discovery, and conversational interfaces. As a senior technical leader, you will also mentor emerging ML engineers and contribute to shaping the strategic direction of AI initiatives within the organization.

Qualifications

• PhD or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence, or a related field.
• Extensive experience (typically 8+ years) in designing, developing, and deploying machine learning models at scale.
• Deep understanding of machine learning algorithms, statistical modeling, and data analysis techniques.
• Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, Java, or C++, and experience with ML frameworks like TensorFlow, PyTorch, or similar.
• Strong background in system architecture design for scalable AI solutions.
• Experience with data pipeline construction, data engineering, and cloud-based infrastructure.
• Excellent problem-solving skills, with the ability to translate complex requirements into effective technical solutions.
• Proven leadership experience, including mentoring junior team members and guiding cross-functional projects.
• Exceptional communication skills to effectively articulate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
