About Paneltex

Paneltex is a leading manufacturer and service provider of temperature-controlled vehicle bodies, vans, trucks and trailers. As part of the Reefer Group, Paneltex is continuing to develop its aftersales and service operation across the UK. We are looking for an experienced Mobile Auto Electrical Engineer to join our expanding service team, covering customers throughout the South of England.

The Role

As a Mobile Auto Electrical Engineer, you will be responsible for attending customer vehicles and carrying out fault finding, diagnosis, repair and maintenance of electrical and mechanical systems associated with temperature-controlled vehicles and their bodies. The role will involve working independently at customer premises, fleet depots and roadside locations, providing a professional and efficient service while ensuring vehicles are returned to operation as quickly as possible.

Key Responsibilities

  • Attend customer vehicles throughout the UK to diagnose and repair faults.
  • Carry out electrical fault finding and diagnostic investigations.
  • Diagnose and repair mechanical faults relating to vehicle bodies and associated equipment.
  • Diagnose faults with vehicle body electrical systems, wiring, lighting, sensors, controls and ancillary equipment.
  • Carry out repairs and maintenance to temperature-controlled vehicle bodies and associated systems.
  • Use diagnostic equipment and electrical test equipment to identify faults.
  • Interpret wiring diagrams and technical information.
  • Identify required parts and provide accurate technical information to the Service Team.
  • Complete repairs safely, efficiently and to a high standard.
  • Carry out preventative maintenance and inspections where required.
  • Complete electronic job cards and service reports accurately.
  • Take photographs and provide clear information regarding vehicle faults and completed repairs.
  • Liaise professionally with customers and fleet operators.
  • Work closely with Paneltex’s Service Administrators, Service Manager and other engineers.
  • Maintain company tools, equipment and the allocated service vehicle to a high standard.
  • Ensure all work complies with Paneltex procedures, health and safety requirements and industry standards.
  • Provide a high level of customer service and represent the Paneltex brand professionally at all times.

Essential Requirements

The successful candidate will have:

  • A minimum Level 3 IMI qualification in Automotive Electrical / Vehicle Electrical Systems or equivalent.
  • Proven experience working within the motor trade.
  • Strong electrical diagnostic and fault-finding skills.
  • Good mechanical knowledge and the ability to diagnose mechanical faults.
  • Experience using electrical diagnostic and test equipment.
  • The ability to read and interpret wiring diagrams.
  • Experience working independently and managing your own workload.
  • A full UK driving licence.
  • A professional approach to dealing with customers.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • The ability to complete job cards, reports and technical documentation accurately.

Desirable Experience

Experience in any of the following would be advantageous:

  • Refrigerated / temperature-controlled vehicles.
  • Refrigeration systems and transport refrigeration equipment.
  • Commercial vehicles, vans or trucks.
  • Tail lifts and associated electrical systems.
  • Vehicle body electrical systems.
  • CANbus and vehicle communication systems.
  • Auxiliary electrical systems and control equipment.
  • Fleet maintenance or mobile engineering.
  • Experience working for a vehicle manufacturer, bodybuilder, dealer or commercial vehicle service organisation.

The Ideal Candidate

We are looking for someone who is technically capable, practical and confident working independently. You will need to be comfortable diagnosing faults rather than simply replacing components, with the ability to identify the root cause of a problem and provide an effective repair. As you will be representing Paneltex directly at customer sites, customer service and professionalism are just as important as technical ability. You will be organised, reliable and capable of prioritising your workload while maintaining communication with the Service Team and customers.

Working Environment

This is a mobile engineering position, covering customers throughout the South of England.

The successful candidate will be provided with a fully equipped Paneltex service vehicle and equipment required to carry out their role. The role will involve travel to customer sites, fleet depots and other locations, with occasional overnight stays where required.
