POSITION SUMMARY:

The Mobile Crisis Therapist II Shift Lead provides rapid, community-based crisis assessment, intervention, and short-term stabilization for individuals experiencing behavioral health emergencies. Services are delivered where the crisis occurs including homes, schools, shelters, and other community locations, with telehealth used when appropriate. In addition to advanced clinical responsibilities, this role provides shift-level clinical and operational leadership for the mobile crisis team. The Shift Lead serves as the primary point of clinical support during assigned shifts, assisting with case coordination, decision making, safety oversight, and workflow management. This position prioritizes diversion from jail, emergency departments, and psychiatric hospitalization when clinically appropriate and consistent with least restrictive care. The Shift Lead collaborates closely with peers, Mobile Crisis Therapist I/II staff, peer support specialists, supervisors, and community partners to ensure timely response, coordinated clinical recommendations, and appropriate access to services. All services are delivered using trauma informed, culturally responsive, and person-centered practices with a strong focus on safety, dignity, and least restrictive care.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Deliver advanced mobile behavioral health crisis services including de-escalation, safety planning, stabilization, and functional support to reduce unnecessary emergency department visits, hospitalization, and legal involvement
  • Conduct comprehensive crisis, diagnostic, and risk assessments in the community and determine appropriate levels of care, including for individuals with co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders
  • Provide brief individual, family, or group therapeutic interventions and independently develop crisis care plans or initial treatment plans as clinically appropriate
  • Develop individualized crisis plans that emphasize least restrictive interventions and recovery-oriented care
  • Serve as the clinical lead on assigned shifts, providing real time guidance, consultation, and decision support to Mobile Crisis Therapist staff and peer support specialists
  • Assist with shift coordination including triaging referrals, prioritizing response based on acuity, and supporting timely deployment of mobile crisis teams
  • Provide clinical oversight and consultation for complex, high risk, or legally sensitive cases
  • Support staff with clinical reasoning, documentation standards, safety planning, and adherence to crisis protocols during assigned shifts
  • Act as a point of contact for supervisors, hospitals, law enforcement, dispatch, and community partners during assigned shifts
  • Collaborate with Mobile Crisis Team to ensure coordinated, person-centered service delivery
  • Coordinate with law enforcement, healthcare providers, schools, DCBS, hospitals, jails, courts, and community organizations to resolve crises and facilitate access to appropriate services
  • Provide consultation, education, and collaborative problem solving with community partners related to crisis response and behavioral health care
  • Model trauma informed, culturally responsive, and person-centered crisis intervention practices
  • Identify and communicate emerging issues, safety concerns, trends, or follow up needs to supervisory staff
  • Maintain accurate, timely, and high-quality documentation of all client contacts, assessments, interventions, and referrals in accordance with organizational and regulatory standards
  • Participate in quality improvement activities, program development, and advanced training related to crisis intervention and evidence-based practices
  • Work alternate schedules and participate in on call coverage as needed to meet 24/7 program needs
  • Perform other related duties as assigned within the scope of independent licensure and training
