MOBILE EQUIPMENT METAL MECHANIC (WELDER)

Repairs and fabricates metal parts for military vehicles using welding, sheet metal tools, and blueprint reading.

The primary purpose of this position is to primary purpose of this position is to repair and/or replace automotive body panels and fenders, refinish vehicle bodies, perform welding work in the repair, modification, and assembly of various types of metal and alloy parts for vehicles using gas and electric methods, repair and replace radiators, cuts and fits vehicle glass.

- Plans and lays out work from blueprints, sketches, drawings, specifications, and work orders in the repair of damaged automotive body parts. - Develops patterns, cuts, forms, joins, assembles, and installs items and systems which have combined straight and curved edges or irregular curves, angles, and planes. Straightens and repairs damaged automotive body parts. Repairs and rebuilds mainframe and body structural members. - Plans and lays out welding assignments from blueprints, sketches, drawings, specifications, and work orders. - Performs sheet metal mechanic duties in a safe manner, utilizing safety practices and procedures, and complying with established safety rules and regulations. - Operates and maintains complex hand and power tools and equipment such as sliproll forming machines, box and pan brakes, rotary machines with extra forming rolls, and crimping, burring, turning, and beading machines, and soldering and welding equipment to fabricate and repair items. Operates and maintains industrial-type sewing machine.
