Mobile Preventative Maintenance Yard Mechanic

The Mobile Preventative Maintenance Yard Mechanic is responsible for servicing/repairing buses at various SOUTHLAND yards in a safe, efficient, and effective manner.

SOUTHLAND is currently offering a $3,000 hiring bonus for Mobile Mechanics - receive $1,500 after 6 months and the remaining $1,500 following one year of employment.

The shift for this position is Monday through Friday, from 6:00 am to 2:30 pm.

Duties

• Ongoing maintenance/repair of buses
• Travel between multiple yards to perform preventative maintenance scheduling
• Diagnose equipment problems
• Spring and winter maintenance
• Complete all documentation associated with equipment repairs
• Work with shop management to maintain schedules and priorities
• Follow SOUTHLAND procedures and guidelines

Requirements

• Must hold a valid Journeyperson Ticket (either Heavy Duty or Automotive); 4th-year apprentices will also be considered
• Own hand tools
• Fluent in written and spoken English
• 2 – 5 years related experience
• Valid driver’s license (class 2 or 3 considered an asset)
• CVIP (Commercial Vehicle Inspection Program) License is considered an asset
• Exposure to working on diesel engines
• Analytical and troubleshooting skills
• Ability to comprehend/operate diagnostic and manual measuring tools, including micrometers, brake drum gauge, Ohmmeters, and AVR (Amps, Volts & Resistors)
• Computer proficiency

Remuneration

• Journeyperson Rate - $42.50 per hour (Automotive) or $45.00 per hour (Heavy Duty)
• Bi-weekly pay period (every second Friday)
