MOBILE REFUSE TRUCK MECHANIC

Garbage / Refuse Truck Repair & Field Service

We are looking for an experienced, dependable Mobile Refuse Truck Mechanic to perform field repairs, diagnostics, preventive maintenance, and emergency service on garbage and refuse collection equipment.

This is not a standard automotive mechanic position. We are looking for someone comfortable working with heavy-duty trucks, hydraulics, electrical systems, and refuse-body equipment in the field.

Responsibilities

  • Diagnose and repair garbage/refuse trucks at customer locations
  • Troubleshoot hydraulic, electrical, pneumatic, and mechanical systems
  • Diagnose hydraulic leaks, pressure issues, valves, pumps, cylinders, hoses, and fittings
  • Troubleshoot electrical wiring, switches, relays, sensors, solenoids, cameras, and control systems
  • Repair and troubleshoot refuse-body functions including:
    • Packers
    • Tailgates
    • Ejector systems
    • Arms and grabbers
    • Tippers
    • Cart lifters
    • PTO and pump systems
  • Perform preventive maintenance and inspections
  • Diagnose intermittent problems and determine root causes instead of simply replacing parts
  • Perform emergency/road service when required
  • Maintain an organized mobile service truck and parts inventory
  • Accurately document repairs, parts used, labor, and equipment condition
  • Communicate professionally with customers, drivers, dispatchers, and shop personnel
  • Follow proper lockout/tagout, blocking, stored-energy, and general safety procedures

Equipment

Technician may work on a variety of refuse equipment including:

Rear Loaders • Front Loaders • Automated Side Loaders • Roll-Off Trucks • Container Delivery Trucks • Cart Tippers/Lifters

Experience with manufacturers such as McNeilus, Heil, New Way, Labrie, EZ Pack, Amrep, Galbreath, Leach, and similar equipment is a major plus.

Qualifications

  • Heavy truck, refuse equipment, hydraulic, or heavy-equipment repair experience preferred
  • Strong hydraulic and electrical troubleshooting ability
  • Ability to read hydraulic and electrical schematics
  • Comfortable using diagnostic equipment and electrical test meters
  • Welding/fabrication experience is a plus
  • CDL is a plus
  • Valid driver's license
  • Must be comfortable performing repairs outdoors and at customer facilities
  • Must be able to work independently and make sound repair decisions in the field

What We're Looking For

We want a technician and troubleshooter, not just a parts changer.

The right person can arrive at a disabled truck, determine what is actually causing the problem, make the proper repair, and get the customer's equipment back into service safely and efficiently.

Refuse equipment experience is highly desirable, but we are also interested in strong heavy-equipment, hydraulic, truck, utility, construction-equipment, or fleet mechanics who are willing to learn the refuse industry.

Compensation

Competitive pay based on experience and ability.

Experienced refuse technicians and candidates with strong hydraulic/electrical diagnostic skills will be compensated accordingly.

Full-time position | Mobile Field Service | Overtime opportunities
