Mobile Phlebotomist
Summary
A mobile phlebotomist travels to patients' homes and assisted living communities to draw blood and collect other specimens, then labels, packages, and transports them to local labs. Day to day involves following optimized routes, documenting collections in the EMR, and coordinating schedules with the operations team while maintaining HIPAA and infection-control standards.
Position Summary
The Mobile Phlebotomist is responsible for collecting blood and other specimens, ensuring proper specimen handling, transporting specimens to local laboratories, documenting services, and coordinating directly with the AMG operations team to provide timely diagnostic support for our Home-Based Primary Care patients.
Essential Responsibilities
- Perform venipuncture and specimen collection in patients' homes and assisted living communities.
- Collect blood, urine, and other ordered specimens.
- Properly label, process, package, and transport specimens to designated laboratories.
- Coordinate daily schedules and routes with the AMG operations team.
- Maintain accurate documentation within the electronic medical record.
- Communicate collection issues, redraws, or patient concerns to the clinical team.
- Ensure specimen integrity through proper handling and transportation.
- Maintain inventory of supplies and equipment.
- Build positive relationships with patients, caregivers, facility staff, and providers.
- Maintain HIPAA compliance and infection prevention standards.
- Represent AMG professionally throughout the community.
Daily Responsibilities
- Review daily assignments and optimized route.
- Travel throughout assigned territory completing scheduled collections.
- Coordinate directly with assisted living communities and residential patients.
- Deliver specimens to the nearest contracted laboratory.
- Document completed collections and unresolved orders.
- Prepare for the following day's schedule before ending the workday.
