Mortgage Representative - Inside Sales
This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Mortgage Representative – Inside Sales based in the United States.
This role is an opportunity to guide customers through the residential mortgage process from initial inquiry through closing.
You’ll combine consultative sales, financial analysis, customer service, and mortgage origination expertise to help customers secure appropriate financing.
Working with referrals from realtors, builders, branches, developers, and inbound prospects, you’ll build relationships and convert opportunities into completed loans.
You’ll evaluate financial and credit information, explain mortgage products, negotiate terms, and coordinate the many steps required to close a loan.
The position offers meaningful customer interaction and requires strong attention to detail, organization, and knowledge of mortgage regulations.
You’ll work under general supervision while managing a broad range of customer, referral-source, and operational relationships.
Success in this role means delivering a high-quality customer experience while maintaining compliance, accuracy, and strong mortgage production.
Accountabilities:
- Originate residential mortgages: Manage mortgage opportunities from initial customer contact and pre-qualification through application, underwriting requirements, and settlement.
- Develop and convert leads: Follow up with referrals from realtors, builders, branches, developers, and other sources through phone, email, and other channels, while responding effectively to inbound mortgage inquiries.
- Advise customers: Answer initial questions, explain available mortgage products, assess customer needs, and guide prospective borrowers toward appropriate financing solutions.
- Process applications: Initiate mortgage applications in person or remotely, provide customers with required documentation packages, enter completed applications accurately, and maintain timely follow-up.
- Evaluate loan risk: Collect and analyze relevant financial and credit information to determine whether prospective loans meet applicable risk and lending requirements.
- Coordinate closings: Collect closing conditions, order appraisals, coordinate draw schedules, and work with relevant parties to ensure settlements are completed efficiently.
- Negotiate loan terms: Discuss and negotiate applicable mortgage terms and conditions with borrowers while balancing customer needs with lending requirements.
- Manage referral relationships: Provide timely and complete feedback to referral sources regarding the status and disposition of their leads and maintain professional relationships with external partners.
- Maintain regulatory compliance: Stay current with mortgage rules, regulations, and federal registration requirements, including obligations under the SAFE Act.
- Education and experience: Associate’s degree plus at least 2 years of mortgage origination and/or customer service experience; alternatively, 4 years of combined higher education and/or work experience, including at least 2 years in mortgage origination or customer service.
- Mortgage knowledge: Understanding of mortgage products, lending processes, applicable government programs, and relevant rules and regulations.
- Sales capability: Demonstrated ability to identify customer needs, communicate value effectively, develop opportunities, and convert prospects into mortgage customers.
- Customer service: Strong customer-facing skills with the ability to build trust, communicate clearly, and provide professional support throughout the mortgage process.
- Financial and mathematical skills: Ability to review financial and credit information, perform relevant calculations, and understand factors involved in evaluating mortgage applications.
- Organization: Strong organizational and time-management abilities, with close attention to accuracy, documentation, deadlines, and multiple concurrent applications.
- Technology skills: General PC proficiency and the ability to learn and use departmental mortgage and business software.
- Communication: Ability to interact professionally and effectively with customers, realtors, builders, developers, and colleagues at different organizational levels.
- Regulatory mindset: Ability and willingness to remain informed about changing mortgage regulations and maintain required federal registration under the SAFE Act.
- Competitive compensation: National base pay range of $22.61–$37.67 USD per hour, with actual compensation determined by location, knowledge, skills, and experience.
