Motor Vehicle Operator

About the Position: This position is located at Naval Medical Center Portsmouth and is responsible for safely operating a wide range of specialized, passenger, and heavy-duty vehicles to transport personnel, cargo, and equipment. This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.

Operate passenger bus with rated capacity of 21 passengers and above, on scheduled and special long and short trips.

Operate gasoline or diesel-powered vehicles with gross vehicle weights of 22,000 or more capable of carrying loads weighing four tons or more.

Maintain control of the vehicle and equipment during medical events ensuring the comfort and safety of medical staff and patients.

Observe time schedules and follows prescribed routes.

Complete trip tickets and fill out accident reports when applicable in compliance with established polices.

Report any misbehavior of passengers.

Load and unload the vehicle and may at times require help from other workers.

Ensure that the vehicle is not overloaded, and that the cargo is properly protected and secured.
