Reports to: Maintenance Lead and Maintenance Supervisor
Performance evaluated by: Maintenance Supervisor
The Job You Will Perform
Maintain corrugator, converting, material handling, and plant utility equipment in safe, reliable operating condition. Perform preventive maintenance, diagnose equipment failures, and complete electrical and mechanical repairs to reduce unplanned downtime and support board quality, box quality, and production requirements.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Safety and energy control. Follow plant safety rules and equipment-specific energy control procedures. Isolate and verify electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, steam, gravity, and other stored energy before servicing. Perform electrical work only within training and authorization. Inspect guards, interlocks, and emergency stops; report unsafe conditions and never bypass protective devices to maintain production.
Corrugator maintenance. Inspect, troubleshoot, and repair roll stands, splicers, preheaters, single facers, glue machines, double backers, bridge conveyors, slitters and scorers, cutoff knives, and stackers. Maintain bearings, drive components, belts, chains, rolls, actuators, and alignment to support consistent sheet production.
Converting maintenance. Maintain flexo folder gluers, rotary die cutters, printers, feeders, slotters, folders, glue systems, counter ejectors, and associated conveyors. Diagnose feed, print registration, cutting, folding, gluing, and stacking problems with operators; distinguish equipment faults from setup or material issues.
Electrical and controls troubleshooting. Read electrical drawings and diagnose motors, starters, contactors, relays, power supplies, variable frequency drives, servo systems, encoders, sensors, and machine communication faults. Use PLC and HMI diagnostics to identify input, output, sequence, and interlock problems. Make program or parameter changes only when authorized, documented, and backed up.
Mechanical and fluid power repairs. Read mechanical drawings and pneumatic and hydraulic schematics. Repair and replace bearings, shafts, couplings, gearboxes, cylinders, valves, regulators, pumps, hoses, and seals. Use appropriate alignment, tensioning, lubrication, and precision measurement methods.
Steam and process support systems. Safely operate and maintain the boiler as trained and authorized. Maintain steam supply at plant-approved operating settings and troubleshoot condensate return, steam traps, and related controls. Maintain compressed air, vacuum, starch preparation and delivery, and adhesive circulation equipment as assigned.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities Continued
Preventive maintenance and reliability. Complete scheduled inspections and lubrication; check wear, vibration, temperature, leaks, alignment, and component condition. Identify developing failures, recommend corrective work, and prepare tools, parts, and job plans for scheduled outages.
Breakdown response and quality. Respond to equipment failures, identify the cause, and make durable repairs. Work with production to investigate equipment contributions to delamination, warp, score depth or position, sheet length variation, poor print registration, and defective folds or glue joints. Verify safe operation and product quality with operators before returning equipment to service.
Material handling and facilities. Maintain sheet and bundle conveyors, transfer equipment, strappers, balers, scrap removal systems, and other assigned plant equipment. Perform installations and modifications using approved drawings and work procedures.
Work records and communication. Accurately record work performed, failure causes, parts used, labor time, and follow-up needs in the plant maintenance system. Provide clear shift handoffs and notify supervision of recurring failures, unusual conditions, parts shortages, and equipment risks.
Housekeeping and food safety. Keep tools, spare parts, and work areas clean and organized. Control metal shavings, loose hardware, lubricants, and other maintenance debris. Follow plant food safety and contamination prevention practices, use approved materials where required, and leave equipment clean after repairs.
Teamwork. Coordinate work with operators, production leaders, and maintenance personnel. Follow instructions, ask questions when needed, share troubleshooting findings, and perform other duties assigned by supervision.
Qualifications
Journeyman or Maintenance License, as required for the position.
Well-rounded electrical and mechanical maintenance experience with the ability to perform the duties above. Experience maintaining corrugated packaging equipment is preferred.
Must have proficiency in electrical controls, including PLCs (Programmable Logic Controllers), motor drives, and AC and DC voltages, and the ability to troubleshoot these systems along with mechanical assemblies, pneumatics, hydraulics, and steam systems within assigned responsibilities.
Ability to read equipment manuals, electrical drawings, and mechanical and fluid power schematics; accurately use electrical test instruments and precision measuring devices.
Ability to read, write, and speak English; maintain accurate records; learn equipment systems; and work effectively as part of a team.
Ability to perform the essential duties and responsibilities of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.
