Multi-Site Director, Laboratory, Full-time, Day Shift

Job Summary:
Maintains responsibility for the overall operation and administration of multiple laboratories providing medical direction to laboratory staff and coordinating medical services for physicians and patients. Manages the administrative operation of the laboratories. Directs and supervises all clerical and technical laboratory staff. Assists in the development and maintenance of lab policies, procedures and quality control practices and monitors the lab’s financial performance. Ensures lab safety and compliance with all regulatory and accreditation agencies. Supervises and directs the activities of various levels of assigned personnel using both professional and supervisory discretion and independent judgment.
Job Requirements:
Education and Work Experience:
- Bachelor’s Degree in medical technology, clinical laboratory science, biological sciences, chemical sciences or allied health technologies or equivalent: Required
- Master's Degree: Preferred
- Seven years' clinical laboratory experience: Preferred
- Five years' leadership experience: Preferred
Licenses/Certifications:
- Current certification from American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or Medical Technologist American Medical Technologists (MT-AMT) certification or equivalent: Required in OR and HI
Essential Functions:
- Directs and supervises staff and coordinates department scheduling. Manages hiring, oversees new-hire orientation, facilitates staff training and administers employee evaluations. Identifies staff education and competency needs and oversees training programs on instrumentation, technology and procedure as needed. Represents the laboratories on environment of care safety inspections. Ensures the test methodologies and instrumentation selected have the capability of providing the quality of results required for patient care.
- Maintains and reviews lab statistics and trend reports to evaluate, improve and streamline daily operations and workflow. Assists in establishing and revising lab policies, procedures and quality control practices and communicating them to staff and leadership. Develops and oversees employee schedules. Ensures physical plant and environmental conditions of the laboratory are appropriate for the testing performed and provides a safe environment in which employees are protected from physical, chemical and biological hazards.
- Assists in developing, implementing and monitoring multiple laboratories operating budget. Takes strides to contain costs without sacrificing patient care. Consistently updates hospital management of capital requirements, potential changes in volume and makes plans for adjustments accordingly. Controls budgeted expenses and enhances revenue.
- Oversees quality control and ensures compliance with rules, regulations and accreditation requirements of regulatory agencies, including Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA), US Food and Drug Administration (FDA), College of American Pathologists (CAP), Joint Commission (JC), AABB, and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA).
- Develops departmental goals and objectives. Develops and implements operational plan to meet department goals and objectives. Consistently contributes to the goals of the hospital through active participation in quality improvement teams and community events.
