Multi-Skilled Maintenance Engineer – Days

Park Royal, London NW10 | £52,000–£60,000 DOE | Monday–Friday, 8:00am–5:00pm

Imagefarm Ltd is an established, privately owned frozen food manufacturer based in Park Royal, London. Established in 1990, we operate from our own manufacturing facility and are looking for an experienced Multi-Skilled Maintenance Engineer to become our principal in-house engineering resource.

This is a genuinely hands-on role maintaining a diverse range of electrically and mechanically driven food-processing, production and packaging machinery.

The successful candidate will take ownership of day-to-day maintenance, reactive breakdowns, Planned Preventive Maintenance (PPM) and the ongoing improvement of machine reliability and engineering standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Diagnose and repair electrical and mechanical machinery faults.

• Respond promptly to production breakdowns and minimise downtime.

• Carry out and document Planned Preventive Maintenance.

• Repair and replace wire belt conveyors, including associated drive and tracking components.

• Maintain motors, gearboxes, bearings, conveyors, pumps, sensors, switches, contactors, relays, drives and related equipment.

• Diagnose and repair pneumatic systems and undertake basic hydraulic maintenance.

• Safely fault-find electrical control panels and machine electrical systems within the engineer's competence.

• Read and interpret electrical drawings, machine manuals and manufacturers' technical documentation.

• Inspect machinery and identify developing defects before failure.

• Maintain engineering records and individual machine maintenance histories.

• Help develop and control engineering spare-parts stocks.

• Source replacement components and spare parts where required.

• Maintain appropriate workshop, tooling and housekeeping standards.

• Identify opportunities to improve machine reliability, safety and performance.

• Liaise with machinery manufacturers and external specialist contractors.

• Assist with machinery installation, modification and commissioning where required.

• Identify engineering Health & Safety concerns including guarding, emergency stops, electrical integrity and safe isolation.

• Maintain engineering and hygiene standards appropriate to a food-manufacturing environment.

Specialist refrigeration plant is maintained under a separate specialist service contract. The Maintenance Engineer will not normally be expected to service or repair this equipment but will act as Imagefarm's principal engineering contact, supervising and liaising with the refrigeration contractor and other specialist engineering contractors attending site.

Essential Skills and Experience

Candidates should have:

• Strong industrial electrical fault-finding skills.

• Good practical mechanical maintenance ability.

• Experience maintaining industrial production machinery.

• Experience of both reactive breakdown maintenance and PPM.

• Experience with motors, contactors, relays, sensors, switches and variable-speed drives/inverters.

• Experience maintaining and repairing conveyor systems.

• Good understanding of pneumatic systems.

• Ability to read electrical drawings and technical manuals.

• Good understanding of electrical and mechanical isolation and safe working procedures.

• Strong practical fault-finding and problem-solving ability.

• Ability to work independently and take ownership of engineering problems.

• Good organisational and record-keeping skills.

• Basic computer literacy, including accessing electronic manuals and technical documents, internet-based spare-parts sourcing and routine email communication using Microsoft Outlook.

• Sufficient written and spoken English to understand technical documentation, communicate clearly with production staff and suppliers, and maintain accurate engineering records.

Desirable Experience

Experience in the following would be advantageous but is not essential:

• Food/FMCG manufacturing.

• Food-processing and packaging machinery.

• PLC fault diagnosis/interrogation.

• Hydraulic systems.

• Stainless-steel welding/fabrication.

• PPM/CMMS systems.

• Machine installations and commissioning.

The Person

We are looking for a practical engineer rather than a desk-based engineering manager.

The successful candidate should be comfortable working directly on machinery, investigating breakdowns and taking responsibility for seeing problems through to resolution.

The position may particularly suit an experienced engineer who has spent many years working shifts within manufacturing and now wishes to move into a stable Monday-to-Friday, 8:00am–5:00pm daytime position while continuing to use their technical knowledge and experience.

Practical ability, reliability, sound engineering judgement and a methodical approach to fault finding are particularly important to us.

What We Offer

• £52,000–£60,000 salary depending upon experience and capability.

• Permanent, full-time position.

• Monday–Friday, 8:00am–5:00pm.

• No routine rotating day/night shift pattern.

• Single manufacturing site.

• Private on-site parking available.

• Considerable autonomy and responsibility.

• Opportunity to take ownership of and improve the site's engineering maintenance systems.

• Long-term position within an established independent manufacturing business.
