Multiple Full Stack Developers

Role Purpose

Working closely under direction of the Commonwealth, positions will focus software engineering delivery for the application, which provides scenario analysis and actionable insights into Defence capability and readiness across logistics and sustainment mission profiles.

Allocation to other products may occur according to Chain of Command directives or in support of the Defence platform services and may include both greenfield and brownfield initiatives of varying complexity and maturity.

Responsibilities:

Software Development and Engineering

• Develop, test, deploy and maintain full stack analytical applications in accordance with Defence software engineering standards and best practices.
• Contribute to the design, development and enhancement of secure, scalable and maintainable software solutions.
• Implement user stories, technical requirements and defect remediation activities within Agile delivery cycles.
• Participate in code reviews and apply established development patterns, frameworks and standards.
• Support the modernisation and sustainment of applications transitioning from outsourced delivery arrangements.

Front-End and Back-End Development

• Develop and maintain front-end components using approved frameworks such as Angular (brownfield) or Svelte (greenfield).
• Develop and support backend services, APIs and application integrations that enable analytical and decision-support capabilities.
• Assist in improving application usability, performance, accessibility and security.
• Ensure solutions align with Defence architectural principles and security requirements and application patterns.

Data Integration and Analytics

• Develop and maintain data ingestion, transformation and integration processes that consume enterprise data mesh and ERP data sources.
• Support the implementation of data services that enable reporting, analytics and scenario analysis capabilities.
• Work closely with data engineers, data architects and business stakeholders to ensure data quality, consistency and availability.
• Contribute to the delivery of solutions aligned with One Defence Data (1DD) data mesh principles.

DevOps and Application Support

• Contribute to the implementation and maintenance of CI/CD pipelines and automated deployment processes.
• Support application deployments, environment management, monitoring and operational support activities.
• Assist in troubleshooting, diagnosing and resolving software defects, production issues and performance concerns.
• Contribute to the ongoing lifecycle management, maintenance and optimisation of software products.

Technical Analysis and Continuous Improvement

• Investigate technical challenges and emerging requirements and recommend appropriate solutions, technologies and design patterns.
• Contribute to the evaluation and implementation of new tools, frameworks and engineering practices.
• Assist in developing and documenting technical standards, procedures and reusable design patterns.
• Support initiatives that improve software quality, security, reliability and delivery efficiency.

Workstreams:

Front-End Application Modernisation

• Angular and /or Svelte framework uplift or transition activities.
• Modernise application codebases to align with Defence security requirements, architectural standards and preferred technology stacks.
• Improve maintainability, performance, usability and security of user-facing applications.

Data Integration and Data Mesh Alignment

• Refactor and align data ingestion and integration patterns.
• Align application data services with One Defence Data (1DD) data mesh principles and/or enterprise logistics ERP data sources and data models.
• Enhance scalability, interoperability and data quality across the application ecosystem.

Product Capability Development

• Design and develop new product features and analytical capabilities. Support product lifecycle management activities across planning, development, deployment and sustainment.
• Deliver functionality aligned with Product Owner priorities and evolving Defence decision-support requirements.

Required Skills / Experience

• SQL development, including 3NF
• Experience with both:
  • Back-end development with .Net including RDBMS and data integration / back-end frameworks
  • JS full stack front-end frameworks (any one of Angular, React, Vue or Svelte for front-end frameworks)
  • Note: Preference for, or a majority of experience with one or the other will be considered
• API architectures
• Agile development, preferably Scrum.
• JS full stack development (any one of Angular, React, Vue or Svelte for front-end frameworks) with preference
• DevOps including pipeline execution, Repo management, automation testing, vulnerability scanning, branch management
• Unit and integration testing
• Any one of:
  • Large scale application refactoring / migration resulting in changes to source system replacement
  • Major security / application framework changes or upgrades affecting whole codebase
  • Core functionality development / uplift including integration of internal extant modules, bug fixes and development of new functionality as defined by Product Manager / Product Owner.

Desirable:

• Understanding of warehouse data taxonomy and best practices and architectures such as Kimball/STAR, Data Vault, data engineering ELT/ETL
• Experience with the logistics systems and logistics business domain, especially SAP data structures.
• Experience with Defence or related industries such as capability development and delivery, sustainment or operational planning.
• Experience with ISM, PSPF security frameworks, application security and hardening.
