MV Commissioning & Electrical Safety Manager
This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a MV Commissioning & Electrical Safety Manager based in Canada.
This is a leadership role focused on medium-voltage commissioning and electrical safety across utility-scale battery energy storage projects.
You will lead a regional team of senior power systems technicians while ensuring strong technical, operational, and safety performance.
The role covers product-level commissioning of battery storage systems, string inverters, MV Skids, and associated electrical equipment.
You will play a key role in MV switching, energization, isolation, grounding, LOTO, testing, troubleshooting, and turnover activities.
The position combines people leadership with hands-on technical oversight and escalation management across complex projects.
You will collaborate with commissioning, operations, maintenance, and client-facing teams across Canada, the United States, and Latin America.

Accountabilities:
- Lead and manage a regional team of Senior Power Systems Technicians, including workload allocation, coaching, professional development, performance management, and technical support.
- Plan workforce capacity and authorization coverage to ensure appropriately qualified personnel are available for commissioning, preventive maintenance, corrective maintenance, and operational activities.
- Assess technician competency for medium- and high-voltage work and product commissioning, recommending appropriate training, qualifications, and authorizations.
- Establish and monitor performance indicators covering safety compliance, commissioning throughput, maintenance turnaround, and team effectiveness.
- Serve as the escalation point for technical, operational, and electrical safety issues identified by field teams.
- Oversee product-level commissioning activities for battery storage systems, string inverters, MV Skids, and associated electrical equipment.
- Develop, implement, and continuously improve commissioning procedures, testing practices, technical documentation, and sign-off requirements.
- Support equipment testing, startup, troubleshooting, energization, de-energization, and project turnover activities.
- Coordinate with site commissioning teams responsible for the broader commissioning program, grid compliance and testing, and client handover.
- Oversee medium-voltage switching activities, typically up to 34.5kV, when control-of-work responsibility is held or delegated to the team.
- Ensure safe execution of isolation, grounding, LOTO, energization, de-energization, and switching activities.
- Ensure compliance with applicable electrical codes and standards, including CSA, NEC, IEEE, NFPA, OSHA, and local utility requirements.
- Travel to project sites across the Americas as required, particularly during commissioning, energization, switching activities, and other major operational milestones.
- Extensive experience working with medium-voltage electrical systems, typically up to 34.5kV, in utility-scale infrastructure, renewable energy, BESS, substations, power generation, or comparable environments.
- Demonstrated experience performing, supervising, or authorizing MV switching activities, including electrical isolation, grounding, LOTO, energization, and safe work planning.
- Proven experience in commissioning, operations, maintenance, or field-service environments involving complex electrical systems.
- Experience leading electrical technicians, commissioning professionals, field-service teams, or other technically qualified personnel.
- Strong knowledge of North American electrical safety codes and standards, including CSA, NEC, IEEE, NFPA, OSHA, and applicable utility requirements.
- Experience supporting commissioning, energization, operations, maintenance, or field-service activities for complex electrical infrastructure.
- Experience developing or implementing electrical safety procedures, switching procedures, permits, risk assessments, method statements, and operating standards.
- Degree, diploma, trade qualification, or equivalent practical experience in electrical engineering, power systems, electrical technology, or a related discipline.
- Strong leadership, communication, decision-making, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to balance technical requirements, operational priorities, safety considerations, and team performance in high-responsibility environments.
- Willingness and ability to travel across the Americas as required.
- Competitive salary of $130,000–$170,000, plus annual bonus.
