Network Engineer (St Andrew's Community Hospital)
Job Summary:
Reporting to the Senior Manager, IT Infrastructure & Security, this role is part of a team of network practitioners who are responsible for designing, implementing, operating and improving the organisation’s network infrastructure, ensuring secure, resilient and reliable connectivity. The role responds to network incidents, rectifies identified issues, implements approved network changes, and carries out assigned project activities. It supports LAN, WAN, WLAN, Internet, VPN, firewall and cloud connectivity across the organisation. The engineer collaborates with infrastructure, security, application and vendor teams to maintain network availability, performance and security.
Job Scope:
Configure, implement and maintain routers, switches, wireless networks, firewalls, VPNs, and related network services.
Respond to network incidents and troubleshoot connectivity, routing, switching, wireless, and firewall issues.
Monitor network availability, capacity, and performance, taking appropriate action to maintain service reliability.
Plan, implement, test, and review network configuration changes, projects, and enhancements.
Manage the lifecycle of network devices, including refresh planning, end-of-life replacement, configuration backups, and restoration readiness.
Maintain accurate network diagrams, device inventories, configuration records, and other technical records.
Gather, assess, and document network requirements for systems, sites, cloud services, and third-party integrations.
Create, update, and maintain operational documentation and troubleshooting guides to support operations.
Coordinate with vendors to implement network changes and enhancements.
Participate in scheduled after-hours maintenance or emergency support where required.
Perform other relevant duties consistent with the job role.
Requirements:
Recognised diploma or degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Network Engineering or a related discipline.
Equivalent professional experience may be considered. Relevant certifications such as CCNP, CCNA, Fortinet NSE, Palo Alto Networks, Aruba, Juniper or equivalent are advantageous.
More than five years' hands-on enterprise network engineering experience.
Proven experience independently managing LAN, WAN, WLAN, VPN and firewalls.
Experience delivering network projects and major changes end-to-end.
Experience managing vendors, carriers and technical escalations.
Strong knowledge of TCP/IP, VLANs, OSPF, BGP, DNS, DHCP and VPNs.
Sound knowledge of firewalls, segmentation, secure remote access and network hardening.
Independently resolves complex network issues with minimal supervision.
Strong analytical, communication and technical documentation skills.
