About the role

Due to an internal move, we’re looking for a Network Operations Engineer to join our Network Operations Centre on a 24/7 rotating roster. In this critical role, you’ll help ensure our network and key service platforms continue to perform reliably, keeping our customers connected to the people, services and moments that matter most.

As part of our NOC, you’ll help keep Aussie Broadband’s network and critical service platforms performing reliably for our customers. You’ll monitor network health, respond to incidents, support planned changes and maintenance, manage operational risks, and work closely with teams across the business to deliver a resilient, high-quality digital experience.

What you’ll be doing

  • Monitoring network and systems events to proactively identify issues.
  • Managing incidents through troubleshooting, escalation, stakeholder communication and post-incident reviews.
  • Supporting planned changes, maintenance and upgrades while managing risk to the network and customers.
  • Identifying and treating problems proactively and reactively.
  • Actioning service requests within agreed operational targets.
  • Spotting risks and threats to network security and resiliency, then working cross-functionally to resolve them.
  • Creating and updating technical knowledge documents, including playbooks, work instructions and knowledge articles.
  • Working with stakeholders across Engineering, Platforms, Provisioning, Products, Customer Support and other teams on incidents, changes, projects and new product rollouts.

What we’re looking for

  • Sound technical networking experience, ideally in an ISP or large enterprise environment.
  • Strong understanding of networking protocols and technologies such as IPv4, IPv6, CG-NAT, MPLS, IPSEC, Segment Routing, BGP, OSPF, IS-IS, VLANs, EVPN, VXLAN, VRF, DNS, DHCP, PPPoE and RADIUS.
  • Good active and passive network troubleshooting skills.
  • Understanding of network design, service dependencies, ISP service platforms and operational support functions.
  • Experience with monitoring, alerting and observability concepts including logs, metrics, dashboards and event correlation.
  • Ability to perform basic fault triage across Linux and application-based systems using established procedures and runbooks.
  • Familiarity with virtualisation and containerisation technologies.
  • Clear communication skills and the ability to share technical detail with the right stakeholders.
  • A willingness to learn, adapt and contribute in a multi-domain, 24x7x365 rotating roster environment.
  • Relevant certifications such as Cisco CCNA, Juniper JNCIA, Fortinet NSE, ITIL 4 or network security certifications.
  • Experience with Cisco ASR9k, Cisco NCS, Juniper routers, Cisco Nexus switches, EVPN, Fortinet firewalls, Fortinet CG-NAT or Corero DDoS Protection.
  • Experience with tools such as LogicMonitor, Grafana, Jira or ServiceNow.
  • Knowledge of routing protocols, MPLS technologies, peering, transit, content management and the NBN network.
  • Experience with Linux operating systems, VMware, KVM, Docker or Kubernetes.
