Network Security Lead
Summary
Senior network security lead on a 12-month contract with a major local government organisation in Brisbane, owning enterprise Check Point and Palo Alto firewall platforms, integrating with Cisco routing/switching, governing security policy via AlgoSec, and monitoring with SolarWinds while driving security architecture improvements.
We're seeking an experienced Network Security Architect/Lead to join a major local government organisation and support the delivery of critical cyber security and network infrastructure initiatives.
In this role, you'll take ownership of enterprise firewall platforms, drive security improvements, and help ensure the resilience of technology services that support essential community operations. Working within a collaborative delivery environment, you'll partner with project teams, vendors, and operational stakeholders to design, implement, and optimise secure network solutions across a large and complex ICT landscape.
This is an excellent opportunity for a senior engineer who enjoys working across both project delivery and operational environments, with exposure to modern security technologies and large scale infrastructure programs.
What You'll Be Doing
- Lead the deployment, upgrade and replacement of enterprise Check Point Firewall environments
- Provide expert support across Check Point and Palo Alto security platforms
- Design and integrate firewall solutions with Cisco routing and switching infrastructure
- Support and optimise security policy governance through AlgoSec
- Monitor and maintain firewall performance, availability and security posture using SolarWinds
- Deliver advanced troubleshooting, incident resolution and root cause analysis
- Produce high quality technical documentation including
- Collaborate with vendors, project teams and operational stakeholders to ensure successful delivery outcomes
- Contribute to the ongoing improvement of network security architecture, standards and best practices
About You
You'll be a seasoned Network Security Engineer with strong experience managing enterprise firewall environments and delivering security focused infrastructure outcomes within large, complex organisations. You enjoy solving technical challenges, working with multiple stakeholder groups, and ensuring solutions are secure, scalable and operationally sustainable.
Essential Experience
- Extensive hands on experience with Check Point Firewalls including implementation, upgrades, policy optimisation and troubleshooting
- Strong experience supporting Palo Alto security solutions within enterprise environments
- Solid background in Cisco routing and switching, particularly firewall integration
- Experience with AlgoSec or similar Network Security Policy Management (NSPM) platforms
- Experience using SolarWinds or comparable infrastructure monitoring tools
- Strong understanding of cyber security principles, governance, risk management and change control processes
- Proven ability to develop technical designs, implementation plans and operational documentation
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills
Highly Regarded
- Experience within Local Government, State Government or other public sector environments
- Exposure to F5 (LTM, GTM, WAF) technologies
- Check Point, Palo Alto, Cisco or Cyber Security certifications
- Experience supporting highly available and business-critical environments
- Knowledge of public sector governance and compliance frameworks
